Ross Barkley and Olivier Giroud see Chelsea win in Malmo

Chelsea hold the advantage after the first leg of the Europa League last-32 tie with Malmo.

Ross Barkley opened the scoring in southern Sweden before Olivier Giroud doubled the lead in the second-half. The hosts grabbed a goal back late to give them a foothold ahead of next week's second leg, however.

Here's how it played out:

Welcome along to our live coverage of the night's hot Europa League action. Kishan will be here shortly with all the team news and build-up, but in the meantime here's the latest from the Arsenal camp:

Confirmation then that Alex Hleb, previously of Arsenal, will start tonight against his former team.

It's a glorious zero degrees currently in Borisov, but having travelled to Vorskla Poltava in Kiev earlier in the season, Unai Emery sees the conditions as no excuse should Arsenal fail here.

They can't buy one in the Premier League at the moment but....

Of course, this is not the first time the sides have faced each other in the competition, with the sides meeting in the group stages in last year's Europa League.

Shkodran Mustafi and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are the sole survivors this evening from the Gunners' previous trip to Borisov, which saw the visitors run out 4-2 winners thanks to a Theo Walcott double, a Rob Holding goal and an Olivier Giroud penalty.

Another duo who were picked in September 2017 and are not part of the squad tonight are Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil.

The Welshman, who announced his summer transfer to Juventus this week, is still missing with a knee problem while the German, whose future at the club is also uncertain, is still missing with illness despite taking part in training.

It's a situation with Ozil that former defender Martin Keown has called "embarrassing" on BT Sport, as the German misses his 100th game of his Arsenal career.

And here are those highlights from 18 months ago in Belarus.

It may not be the conditions up above that may stall Arsenal tonight after all......

So, the teams are due out in the next few minutes ahead of a crucial match for Unai Emery, with the Europa League representing a realistic chance of silverware as the competition enters the knockout stages.

What can Arsenal muster in the competition this time around, having reached the semi-finals last year before losing out to eventual winners Atletico Madrid.

1 min: BATE Borisov 0-0 Arsenal

A minute's applause is held for Emiliano Sala, and we're now underway at a futuristic Borisov Arena. Can Arsenal record a repeat of their win here last season?
2 min: BATE Borisov 0-0 Arsenal

What a chance for Arsenal in the first 90 seconds! Iwobi plays a defence-splitting pass and Kolasinac is found in acres of space. The Bosnian picks out Mkhitaryan in the centre but he is denied from point-blank range by the keeper.

What a start that would have been.
5 min: BATE Borisov 0-0 Arsenal

A bright start from Arsenal and they create another decent chance.

Mkhitaryan whips in a superb ball from the left and neither Monreal nor Koscielny can get a definitive touch from Mustafi's flick on.
YELLOW CARD
9 min: BATE Borisov 0-0 Arsenal

First yellow card of the game goes to Arsenal's Granit Xhaka after a cynical pull back on Maksim Skavysh.
13 min: BATE Borisov 0-0 Arsenal

First time BATE have really posed a threat and Petr Cech is required to claim Skavysh's drive from the angle at the second time of asking.
18 min: BATE Borisov 0-0 Arsenal

The hosts have settled and have manged to break up Arsenal's play after the visitors' electric start wish should have seen them score at least once.

A more even game now with a few misplaced passes from Emery's men in the last few minutes.

22 min: BATE Borisov 0-0 Arsenal

Another. Huge. Chance. And another missed!

It's Kolasinac whose involved again and he plays a wonderfully weighted ball to the back post for Alexandre Lacazette, but the Frenchman heads over when he really ought to have hit the target at the very least.
26 min: BATE Borisov 0-0 Arsenal

The hosts may have giften chances to Arsenal, but they look more than capable of creating their own.

Ihar Stasevich is making it no easier for Mailtand-Niles at the back, and he gets the beating of the Arsenal younsgter and smashes in a ball across the box which Kolasinac does well to turn behind with Milic lurking.
29 min: BATE Borisov 0-0 Arsenal

That's an opportunity for the hosts.

Skavysh is starting to cause problems as well on the right and after seeing off the challenge of Guendouzi, he squares it to Milic who gets far too much on it at the near post and it flashes wide.
