Chelsea vs Leicester winners and losers as Kai Havertz shines but January signing hooked

Chelsea eased to their third consecutive victory i n all competitions on Saturday as they cruised past Leicester 3-1 at the King Power Stadium.

The Blues enjoyed a perfect start through former Fox Ben Chilwell 's sweetly-taken strike before Patson Daka's goal from range hauled the hosts level. Kai Havertz restored Chelsea's lead on the stroke of half-time with a stunning chipped finish.

Mateo Kovacic rounded off a satisfying afternoon for Graham Potter with an acrobatic effort ten minutes from time. The three points leaves the Londoners in tenth but they are now just five points behind fifth-placed Liverpool.

Take a look at who shone and who didn't from the King Power Stadium:

Winners

Ben Chilwell

A trip to Leicester will always whet the appetite of Ben Chilwell. The left-back departed the East-Midlands under a cloud and has received a rotten reception ever since. That was certainly apparent within the opening minutes of the game.

The England star very quickly silenced the home support though, as he struck the opener - a fine half-volley as Leicester failed to deal with a cross back into the box. Chilwell duly celebrated in front of the Leicester fans after cupping his ears.

Apart from his goal, it was also a very assured and confident outing from the left-back, who now firmly appears to be Potter's first choice in the position. His performance against his former club will certainly see his claim strengthened.

Kai Havertz

From one goalscorer to another, not many will forget Kai Havertz's strike in a hurry. The German latched onto Enzo Fernandez 's stunning lofted pass and then chipped advancing Leicester keeper Ward.

As was the quality of the strike, it almost left those - including his teammates and the travelling Chelsea fans - baffled. It took a few seconds for the celebrations to get underway in earnest but once they did, there will no doubt have been discussions about the move.

Again, Havertz's contributions were not just limited to his goal as the German worked tirelessly throughout the game.

Enzo Fernandez

The architect of Havertz's strike, the vision to at first spot the pass was extraordinary, whilst the audacity to execute it to perfection was outstanding. Having forked out what was a British transfer record to take the midfielder to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea chiefs will certainly be sitting very satisfied at their decision.

Whilst the former Benfica star might have a long way to go to prove he was worthy of that astounding transfer fee, his current contributions are certainly standing him in excellent stead. Graham Potter has suggested that he is set to get "better and better" - something that will be a scary prospect for the rest of the Premier League.

Losers

Joao Felix

Initially, it looked as though the on-loan Benfica star would enjoy a productive evening as he chalked up what was the second goal of his Stamford Bridge stint. The Portuguese rounded off an excellent team move to seemingly put Chelsea in command after slotting home a low cross from Ruben Loftus-Cheek

VAR intervened though and Felix saw his goal ruled out. Things then got worse for the forward after playing a major role in Leicester's equaliser. He dallied on the ball before being robbed by Ricardo Pereira - Patson Daka getting on the scoresheet for the hosts from range.

The goal was elementary in the end but Felix's disappointing afternoon wasn't halted there after he was taken off at half-time, a decision that Chelsea boss Potter confirmed was tactical.

Wout Faes

Having been signed as Wesley Fofana's replacement, it seems that the only similarity between the pair are their initials. The Belgian endured a torrid afternoon against Chelsea as Brendan Rodgers attempted to arrest his side's alarming slide. He was named in a back three alongside Daniel Amartey and Harry Souttar but was too often caught out of position.

He consistently charged out of the backline and mistimed challenges on his opposite numbers. That eventually came by to bite him as Faes picked up two yellow cards for badly misjudged tackles and was sent off ten minutes before full-time.

Brendan Rodgers

The former Liverpool boss claimed in his post-match press conference that chants regarding his position had no effect but there almost seems to be an air of resignation over Rodgers' future. Fans once again called for him to leave the club throughout the game and at the full-time whistle.

In normal circumstances, a defeat to Chelsea would not have been terminal for the Northern Irishman but the Foxes have now lost five consecutive games in all competitions. Rodgers seems incapable of turning things around no matter what he tries and looks sure to leave Leicester one way or another - no matter what division the East Midlanders find themselves in.
