Stamford Bridge, home of Chelsea Football Club - (The FA via Getty Images)

Follow live coverage as Chelsea face Everton today in the Premier League. Another top-flight season will be covered in full right here with The Independent, as reigning champions Manchester City look to make it an unprecedented five titles in a row come the end of 2024/25.

The likes of Arsenal and Liverpool will be chasing Pep Guardiola's side, but just as fascinating will be the race for Champions League places, with more teams than ever before having designs on top-four finishes. Chelsea remain big-spending, Manchester United's latest rebuild continues and both Tottenham and Newcastle will expect improvements this year - yet it was Aston Villa who snared fourth last term.

Meanwhile, it's Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town who made it back to the elite after promotion last year and each will have hope they can make it more than a one-year stay. Follow the latest live action from the Premier League below:

Chelsea FC 1 - 0 Everton FC

Chelsea vs Everton

14:34

Chelsea secured an important 1-0 victory against Everton in the Premier League as they continue their push to finish in the Champions League places. The game mattered very little for the Toffees, who are safe from relegation, but Moyes will be disappointed with the display nonetheless. Chelsea, who created 0.98 expected goals throughout, opened the scoring in the first half as Jackson turned in space on the edge of the box, and his driven effort found its way into the bottom corner. After the break, the Toffees improved, and they should have equalised as McNeil struck a volley from close range, but Sanchez was equal to it, making a superb diving save to deny him. Chelsea took their foot off the gas in the second half, but they were deserved winners in the end. The Blues face Liverpool next in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge, while Everton host Ipswich Town next week. That's all for today, goodbye!

Chelsea vs Everton

We're into the final five minutes of the game, and Chelsea are still looking pretty comfortable. Everton are showing glimpses of attacking threat, but not enough. Maresca's side have had chances to kill the game off - will they regret not taking them?

14:14

Everton have certainly improved drastically since the break and are enjoying more possession. The lack of quality and end product in the final third is letting them down, but it's set up for a nervous ending for Chelsea.

Maresca will be happy with what he's seen from his side, but Moyes will be the opposite. It wouldn't be a surprise to see some early Everton changes. Could we see McNeil, Alcaraz, or Chermiti shortly after the break as the Toffees chase an equaliser?

Chelsea vs Everton

13:29

Chelsea go into the break with a 1-0 lead over Everton at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League. It's been a poor showing from the Toffees, and Maresca will undoubtedly be the happier manager heading into half-time. Cucurella enjoyed the best chance of the game as Pickford's poor punch fell to his feet inside the box, but he failed to hit the target with a volley. From the resulting goal-kick, Pickford's pass into Beto wasn't held up by the Everton striker, allowing Chelsea to win back possession. Enzo found the feet of Jackson, and he turned before firing into the bottom corner superbly from range. It's been a dominant display from Chelsea, but they've not needed to be at a high level to be in front.
