Chelsea vs Ajax: Mason Mount set for scan on injured ankle with midfielder a doubt for England qualifiers

Mason Mount is a doubt for England’s final two Euro 2020 qualifiers after suffering an injury against Ajax.

The Chelsea midfielder is set for a scan today on an apparent ankle issue after being helped off in the 60th minute of the Uefa Champions League fixture.

And with England’s games against Montenegro and Kosovo little more than a week away, any extended absence would preclude Mount from taking part in the qualifiers.

“They’ve strapped his ankle and hopefully it’s relatively minor but it’s one for the morning,” said manager Frank Lampard after the game.

Mount was expected to be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the qualifiers, which will be named on Thursday.

He has won four caps since making his England debut in September.

Southgate’s side host Montenegro on November 14 and then visit Kosovo three days later.

Victory over Montenegro would secure qualification for next summer’s tournament.

Chelsea’s next action is a Premier League game against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
