Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea made it two wins from two in pre-season on Sunday as they put four goals past AC Milan. The Italians played much of the match with ten men after Andrei Coubis, making his first senior Milan appearance, was dismissed for tackling last man Joao Pedro with less than 20 minutes played. It was a dismal debut for the Romanian, who also opened the scoring with an own goal, turning home Reece James’ cross.
The Blues flew in the first half, with Pedro then heading home from Pedro Neto’s cross to double their lead. A second-half brace from Liam Delap completed their scoring for the day after Youssouf Fofana pegged one back for the Rossoneri.
Maresca now has a pleasant problem on his hands as he has to decide which of his strikers will start a week from today when Crystal Palace visit Stamford Bridge to open the Premier League season. Both Delap and Pedro have been on form in pre-season, scoring four of Chelsea’s six summer goals between them. Estevao impressed off the bench again, winning the penalty for Chelsea and keeping the Italians guessing throughout. Catch up on the action as it happened below!

Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge
16:18 , Arthur FerridgeAnother defensive injury for Chelsea as Trevoh Chalobah comes off. Maresca can ill afford not to go into the market for another centre-back if Chalobah is out for any significant period.
Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
16:17 , Arthur Ferridge58mins: Fernandez stings Maignan’s palms with a dipping effort from the edge of the box.
Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge
16:16 , Arthur FerridgeReece James has it all, but you didn't need me to tell you that. The Englishman just made a vital challenge in his own box to prevent Milan getting a goal back.

Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge

Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge
15:52 , Arthur FerridgeHalf-time at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea are in complete control, two goals to the good and with a man advantage. Jamie Gittens started brightly on his first start, winning the free-kick for the opening goal. The 21-year-old did, however, fade as the half wore on. Could do with seeing a bit more from him.

Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:42 , Arthur Ferridge41mins: Chalobah trips Leao, and that will be a Milan free-kick right on the edge of the area.
Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:40 , Arthur Ferridge39mins: Musah plays a nice ball up to Leao in the box, but Chalobah provides a no-nonsense clearance to ensure he can’t do anything with it.
Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:38 , Arthur Ferridge37mins: Modric is yet to appear for Milan this summer. This would be a tricky way to debut.
Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge
15:38 , Arthur FerridgeA roar from the away end as Luka Modric starts to warm up. They could do with his controlling presence right now.
Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:37 , Arthur Ferridge35mins: Loftus-Cheek gets the better of Cucurella. The Spaniard trips him up to get his own back.
Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:36 , Arthur Ferridge34mins: This is a really swaggering performance from Chelsea. They look supremely confident.
Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:35 , Arthur Ferridge33mins: Neto hits another delectable cross, this time for Gittens, whose effort is saved. Caicedo finds him with a ball over the top a moment later, but he can’t quite get it under control.

How Milan went down to ten men
15:29 , Arthur Ferridge

Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:27 , Arthur Ferridge25mins: Reminder that, to date, Milan are unbeaten in pre-season. That record does seem to be under threat at the minute.
Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge
15:26 , Arthur FerridgeA cooling break offers a much-needed reprieve for AC Milan, who are really feeling the heat here. Chelsea cruising.
Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:25 , Arthur Ferridge24mins: Palmer goes close with another free kick! He’s scored from that range before, and was unlucky not to there.
Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge
15:24 , Arthur FerridgeAn afternoon to forget for AC Milan's Andrei Coubis, an own goal and now a red card on his senior debut. Penny (Eurocent?) for the young defender's thoughts.
Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:22 , Arthur Ferridge19mins: Palmer rattles the post from the free-kick. It was well beyond Maignan.
Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge
15:21 , Arthur FerridgeChelsea have been rampant and now AC Milan are down to 10 men. This game seems to be as good as done before the 20 minute mark. Massimo Allegri can only stomach a wry smile on the bench.
RED CARD! Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:20 , Arthur Ferridge18mins: This is an absolute, unfettered disaster of a debut for Coubis. He scored an own goal after six minutes, and has a red card after 18. Catastrophe for the young Italian, whose tackle on Pedro would have been more at home on a rugby pitch.
Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:19 , Arthur Ferridge18mins: Leao plays Saelemaekers through and the Dutchman shoots from a tight angle. A smart reaction save from Sanchez denies him. Chelsea counter apace and Pedro is hauled down by Coubis. His hand is in his pocket...
Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:18 , Arthur Ferridge17mins: Milan enjoy a little attacking spell. Loftus-Cheek swings one in from deep, but his former academy teammate James is there to cut it out.
Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:15 , Arthur Ferridge13mins: Milan’s forwards are putting immense pressure on the Chelsea back line, but the Blues are playing around them coolly. They come forward in a counterattack, and Fernandez forces a save from Maignan.
Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:14 , Arthur Ferridge12mins: James does well to win a goal kick, flicking the ball off an exasperated Salemaekers.
Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge
15:13 , Arthur FerridgeJoao Pedro can't stop scoring and neither can Chelsea. That's the Brazilian's second goal in two pre-season games. He has now scored five goals in his first five Chelsea appearances. What a start from the hosts.
GOAL! Chelsea 2-0 AC Milan
15:10 , Arthur Ferridge8mins: Joao Pedro scores again! It's five in five for the Brazilian! Neto is quick down the right wing and swings a tidy cross to the Brazilian in the centre. He finishes a tidy move with a routine header.
Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge
15:08 , Arthur FerridgeA standing ovation from set-piece coach Bernardo Cueva as Chelsea take the lead inside five minutes, with Trevoh Chalobah following in from an inswinging Reece James free-kick. Clearly a move the Blues have worked on, at the expense of the debutant Coubis.
GOAL! Chelsea 1-0 AC Milan
15:07 , Arthur Ferridge6mins: The Blues lead early! Disaster for AC Milan! Reece James’ free-kick falls to Coubis, who stumbles and deflects it into his own net. He won’t want to watch that back.
Chelsea 0-0 AC Milan
15:06 , Arthur Ferridge5mins: A simple step-over sends Gittens away from Musah, who fouls the Chelsea winger to give the Blues another dangerous free-kick.
Chelsea 0-0 AC Milan
15:05 , Arthur Ferridge4mins: Tomori clatters Joao Pedro to hand the Blues an early free-kick, which they play back towards their own goal.
Chelsea 0-0 AC Milan
15:03 , Arthur Ferridge2mins: Milan come forward apace through Leao, but Chalobah comes across to reduce the threat. Palmer goes long to Pedro, but Maignan turns sweeper.
Chelsea 0-0 AC Milan
15:02 , Arthur Ferridge1min: Neto knocks one up to Joao Pedro, but Maignan is first to it.
KICK OFF: Chelsea 0-0 AC Milan
15:01 , Arthur FerridgeFor the second and final time in pre-season, we are underway at Stamford Bridge!
Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge
15:00 , Arthur FerridgeThere is plenty of Chelsea interest in the AC Milan team, with former Blues Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek both starting for the Rossoneri here at Stamford Bridge.
The players are out
14:57 , Arthur FerridgeKick off comes next.
Reminder of the XIs
14:52 , Arthur FerridgeNot long until kick-off now. Here are your starting lineups for today.
Chelsea XI: Sanchez; James, Chalobah, Tosin, Cucurella; Caicedo, Enzo; Neto, Palmer, Gittens; Joao Pedro
AC Milan XI: Maignan; Ricci, Tomori, F. Terracciano, Bartesaghi, Coubis, Saelemaekers, Musah, Fofana, Loftus-Cheek, Leao
Ruben Loftus-Cheek on returning to Stamford Bridge
14:49 , Arthur FerridgeChelsea academy graduate Ruben Loftus-Cheek is back at Stamford Bridge today for the first time since he moved to AC Milan in 2023.
He said: “It's good to be back. I wasn't sure if I’d ever play here again. It is very nice to come here and see some familiar faces. I'm very happy. On the football side, it’ll be a good test for us.”
Pulisic absence explained
14:46 , Arthur FerridgeChristian Pulisic misses out today with a minor injury, according to BBC Sport.
Maresca previews the tie
14:44 , Arthur FerridgeEnzo Maresca speaks to Channel 5.
On squad rotation: “We just need to share minutes. It is one week since we start, it is important to share minutes. Intention is exactly the same.”
On Gittens and Joao Pedro: “The same thing they did the other day, same thing since we start. Slowly they get better and better. This is the main thing.”
On Estevao being named a substitute: “It is the game plan. Sometimes you have to be out.”
AC Milan pre-season results so far
14:41 , Arthur FerridgeIt has been a mixed summer of results for AC Milan. Here is how they have fared in earlier friendlies:
AC Milan 0-1 Arsenal (6-5 after pens)
AC Milan 4-2 Liverpool
AC Milan 9-0 Perth Glory
AC Milan 1-1 Leeds United
How will Chelsea be affected by their short pre-season?
14:36 , Arthur FerridgeEnzo Maresca has no idea! Chelsea are in uncharted waters.
“Because it is the first time that has happened, we don't have the answer. It is complicated," Maresca said after the Leverkusen match.
“We arrive here, we start three or four days ago, and we start like we didn't finish. Like a normal week.
“We cannot do pre-season, we don't have time. We have another game Sunday, then we start official games. It is very complicated.
“The sport scientists, doctors, me, we don't know. We don't have the answer, because it is the first game.”
What to make of the AC Milan XI
14:28 , Arthur FerridgeFormer Blues Tomori and Loftus-Cheek start on return to Stamford Bridge. Pulisic does not make the squad.
Luka Modric is on the bench and could make his AC Milan debut.
So too could Pervis Estupinan, newly signed from Brighton. He is the first Ecuadorian to ever play for the club.
Mike Maignan starts between the sticks after brushing with a move to Chelsea earlier this summer.
AC Milan starting XI
14:25 , Arthur FerridgeThe visitors finally name their lineup.
AC Milan starting XI: Maignan; Ricci, Tomori, F. Terracciano, Bartesaghi, Coubis, Saelemaekers, Musah, Fofana, Loftus-Cheek, Leao
Subs: P. Terracciano, Estupinan, Gimenez, Modric, Okafor, Chukwueze, Jashari, Pavlovic, Sia, Dutu, Pittarella, Eletu, Gabbia, Torriani
The Blues arrive at Stamford Bridge
14:20 , Arthur Ferridge

What did Maresca have to say after Leverkusen?
14:10 , Arthur FerridgeMaresca was pleased with Chelsea’s performance after they won 2-0 despite returning to training just four days prior.
“[I am] very happy with the performance, especially after just four days training. It is good to start again.”
Of Estevao, who marked his Chelsea debut with a goal, he added: “He is very young, very, very young. He needs to adapt, he needs to play. I said yesterday he is going to help because he is a fantastic player.”
How to replace Levi Colwill?
14:04 , Arthur FerridgeChelsea will look internally for a replacement for Levi Colwill this season, according to BBC Sport.
They rate Josh Acheampong and Benoit Badiashille highly, and would not want to unsettle either player with a fresh signing.
Neither makes the XI today, though. Acheampong is on the bench, while Badiashille is left out altogether.
Chelsea squad
13:55 , Arthur FerridgeTyrique George drops to the Chelsea bench after struggling to make an impact against Leverkusen last time out.
Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo are handed an opportunity to impress at centre-back, where more minutes are suddenly on the table following Levi Colwill’s injury. Acheampong set the bar high with his performance on Friday.
Dario Essugo may be disappointed not to start after he made an impressive cameo in the Leverkusen friendly. He should get used to playing fourth fiddle to Caicedo, Fernandez, and Lavia, though.
After drawing a blank last time out, Delap drops to the bench and is replaced by the goalscoring substitute Joao Pedro. The rivalry between those two will run throughout this campaign, you would assume.
Sam Tabuteau at Stamford Bridge
13:51 , Arthur FerridgeAnother Chelsea game, another Chelsea start for an exciting young winger. This time it’s Jamie Gittens who gets his opportunity. The 21-year-old showed flashes off the bench vs Leverkusen on Friday. Now he gets a chance from the off as the Blues take on AC Milan.
Chelsea starting lineup
13:46 , Arthur FerridgeHere’s Enzo Maresca’s squad for today.
Confirmed Chelsea XI: Sanchez; James, Chalobah, Tosin, Cucurella; Caicedo, Enzo; Neto, Palmer, Gittens; Joao Pedro
Subs: Jorgensen, Slonina, Acheampong, Anselmino, Hato, Gusto, Antwi, Essugo, Andrey Santos, Rak-Sakyi, Walsh, Estevao, George, Delap
Estevao with the Chelsea squad
13:43 , Arthur FerridgeWill the Brazilian start again today?

Last time out
13:39 , Arthur FerridgeChelsea cruised to a 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen in their pre-season opener on Friday.
A debut goal from Estevao had Chelsea ahead at the break, before Joao Pedro scored with the last kick of the game to confirm the result.
Chelsea early team news
13:35 , Arthur FerridgeReggie Walsh is at Stamford Bridge with the Chelsea first team despite playing for the Under21s against Brentford at Cobham earlier today.
The 16-year-old became a Chelsea scholar earlier this summer.
Could he feature in Enzo Maresca’s squad today?

Chelsea vs AC Milan head to haed
13:31 , Arthur FerridgeThese sides last met in a competitive fixture in the 2022-23 Champions League group stage. Chelsea scored five unanswered goals over the two matches, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Reece James, Wesley Fofana, and Jorginho all on target.
Chelsea wins: 3
AC Milan wins: 1
Draws: 3
Chelsea predicted line-up
13:22 , Arthur FerridgeThe Blues lineup is expected to look quite different today to that which started against Leverkusen on Friday.
Here’s how we think the XI might shape up:
Chelsea predicted XI: Sanchez; James, Chalobah, Tosin, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo, Gittens, Palmer, Neto, Joao Pedro
Doubts: Badiashile, Lavia,
Injured: Fofana, Colwill
Chelsea to parade Club World Cup trophy
13:13 , Arthur FerridgeJust in case you had forgotten that Chelsea are champions of the world, they will again parade the Club World Cup trophy at Stamford Bridge today.
The club have asked supporters to be in their seats a full half hour ahead of kick-off so as to see the trophy.
They will bring it back out at full time, too, just for good measure.
Chelsea supporters are urged to take their seats by 2.30pm today to witness the Club World Cup trophy presentation. 🏆
— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) August 10, 2025
The trophy will then return to the pitch after the match as the players undertake a lap of appreciation. 👏
Standard Sport prediction
13:05 , Arthur FerridgeMany of those at Stamford Bridge on Friday will have been surprised to see Chelsea so lively as they returned to the pitch after just a few weeks of holiday.
While maybe not at their best, the Blues were very impressive, and ran rings around a much-changed Bayer Leverkusen outfit.
AC Milan are a similarly transitional team at the moment, and may struggle to match the world champions’ vigour.
Maresca will name a heavily rotated side, but this is a squad built with rotation in mind - its second-choice XI is still worth hundreds of millions.
The Blues should have no problem.
Chelsea to win, 3-1
AC Milan early team news
12:55 , Arthur FerridgeFormer Chelsea players Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Fikayo Tomori and Christian Pulisic could all feature for AC Milan.
Mike Maignan is also expected to appear after he came close to joining Chelsea ahead of the Club World Cup.
The Rossoneri will be without defender Malick Thiaw as he closes in on a move to Newcastle United. He is expected to travel to Tyneside this evening ahead of undergoing a medical tomorrow.
Latest odds for Chelsea vs AC Milan
12:52 , Arthur FerridgeChelsea to win: 4/6

Odds from Betfair (subject to change)
Chelsea early team news
12:45 , Arthur FerridgeChelsea will be without Levi Colwill after he suffered up an ACL injury in training last week.
Heavy rotation is expected, given the Blues were in action against Bayer Leverkusen less than 48 hours ago.
Robert Sanchez is set to start in goal after Filip Jorgensen played 90 minutes against Leverkusen.
Cole Palmer, Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo, and Trevoh Chalobah were all withdrawn at half-time on Friday.
Despite dazzling against Leverkusen, Estevao will most likely be on the bench as Maresca looks to temper expectations for the youngster.
Aaron Anselmino, Genesis Antwi, and Samuel Rak-Sakyi were brought on together with 15 minutes left to play on Friday, and could be in line for a more significant test. The same is true of Jamie Gittens, Reece James, and Pedro Neto.
