Chelsea produced their most scintillating performance of last season in this fixture, tearing Everton to shreds to the tune of five goals. Yet that was a win inspired by Eden Hazard, a player now feeling his way back after an ankle operation, and the visitors are much changed these days. A sterner test awaits this time with the visitors steeled and the champions still to be properly strengthened before the transfer deadline. It would not take a lot to bring a summer of frustration back to the surface. Dominic Fifield
