Chelsea urged not to 'harm' Nicolas Jackson's confidence with move for Victor Osimhen

Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has urged the club not to sign Victor Osimhen this summer.

Standard Sport understands the Nigeria international is of interest to the Blues, who have been encouraged in their pursuit of the forward.

A new striker is believed to be high on the agenda at Stamford Bridge but any move for the 24-year-old could have to wait until the summer transfer window.

Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis is notoriously a tough negotiator and values the former Lille star at well over £100m.

While goals were proving a problem for Chelsea during the early days of the Mauricio Pochettino era, his attacking players have started to find form.

Their last two games have yielded eight goals, four of which have been scored by Nicolas Jackson.

Pochettino issued a roaring defence of the Senegal forward after criticism from Alan Shearer and the Argentine has also spoken in glowing terms about Armando Broja.

Gallas believes the arrival of a star in the mould of Osimhen would dent their progress - particularly Jackson's.

"Victor Osimhen joining Chelsea would harm the confidence of players like Nicolas Jackson," he told Lord Ping.

"You have to be careful and really think about bringing in a new striker. As I said before, I think Chelsea should finish the season with Jackson and see how many goals he gets. We also need to see how he improves.

"He has the quality to do so. Chelsea need to let Jackson get to work."
