New Chelsea third kit: When fans will see the new 1990s inspired Nike shirt for the first time

Chelsea have already announced the club's new third kit for the 2019/20 season.

The jersey, which will be debuted in the European opener against Lille on October 2nd, has taken aspects of 1990s jersey culture, and is a nod to a previous shirt worn in a successful period for the club.

Predominantly black with flashes of orange throughout, the third kit is similar to the away shirt worn by the team of the 1994-96 seasons, while also having other elements which are inspired by the era.

The old style Nike symbol is present, instead of the modern stand alone tick along with an old style squared off collar which makes the shirt unique.

Pictures feature academy graduates Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham, both of whom weren't even born when the club played in the kit that inspired the offering, and Mount believes that the shirt will be a popular option for Blues fans young and old.

“You can see the ’90s influence in fashion at the moment, and I think the kit will appeal to pretty much everyone,”he said.

“Younger fans will like that it has a streetwear vibe and older fans will appreciate the sentimentality, remembering club legends who donned the famous jersey and their memories of going to games.”

The kit will be complete with bright orange socks and black shorts, and is available to buy from the Chelsea megastore and Nike.com.
