Chelsea trigger contract extension for Swansea City loanee Marc Guehi as Newcastle Utd, West Ham and Crystal Palace weigh up £20m transfer

Chelsea have reportedly triggered a 12-month extension to Swansea City loanee Marc Guehi's contract, in a move that will keep him at Stamford Bridge for the next two years.

However, according to The Athletic, a number of Premier League clubs are monitoring his situation, with serious interest coming from Crystal Palace and Southampton.

West Ham United and Newcastle United are also believed to have taken a look at the centre-back, although both destinations have been portrayed as less likely.

The 20-year old also seems to have admirers in Germany, with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach mooted as a potential suitor.

The interest in Guehi is arguably unsurprising given he has shone out on loan with the Swans over the last two seasons, although the player himself will currently be fully focused on the upcoming Championship play-offs.

Swansea would surely, in an ideal world, want to keep him on for at least another season, but their hopes of doing so will likely hinge on whether they are a Premier League club.

The Blues are currently considering whether to sanction a third successive loan spell, with discussions likely to take place over the summer.

Guehi is highly rated by Stamford Bridge insiders, but given he is unlikely to be a part of Thomas Tuchel's immediate first team plans, Chelsea could yet cash in on the England under-21 international, whom they are believed to value between £15m-£20m.

If he is sold, reports suggest the deal is likely to include a buy-back clause, as was the case when Nathan Ake joined Bournemouth.
