Chelsea transfers Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech can raise level of team-mates, says Frank Lampard

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has hailed the crucial additions of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to his squad for next season, hoping the duo can provide a similar impact to the star signings made during his own playing days at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues did not seal any new recruits during Lampard's first two windows at the helm, with a summer transfer ban followed by a failure to land a coveted new striker in January.

Chelsea have already moved fast to ensure that such frustration is not repeated this summer, adding winger Ziyech and striker Werner to the squad for a combined £80million.

And Lampard believes those two arrivals can make a big impact in west London and improve the level of their new team-mates.

“Having been in a transfer ban it made those two signings so important,” he said.

“I remember as a player, when the club were bringing players here of a really high level, you would feel the excitement in training, feel the level of training rise at times when the players here would improve alongside the injection of quality.”
