Chelsea transfer seemingly imminent as £40m signing spotted arriving for medical

Chelsea appear close to announcing another transfer with midfield misfit Tiemoue Bakayoko having arrived in Italy for his medical.

The Frenchman has been strongly linked with a loan move to Milan over recent days, having fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge following a disastrous first season.

The 26-year-old was afforded opportunities to impress during pre-season under Thomas Tuchel but now appears to be the latest to exit the club in what has been a busy summer for outgoings in west London.

In a video posted on social media by Italian journalist Antonio Vitiello, Bakayoko is seen stepping out of a car and heading inside to reportedly undergo his medical with Milan.

Should all of the checks be completed as expected, it only remains a matter of time before the Frenchman seals his return to the San Siro.

Bakayoko was previously with the club during the 2018/19 season and went on to make 42 appearances in all competitions for the Italian giants, scoring one goal.

Since then, he has also had temporary spells with AS Monaco and Napoli and is now set to return to his former employers for a second stint.

The move all-but signals the end of Bakayoko’s time as a Chelsea player. He joined the club for a reported £40m from Monaco in 2017 and despite making 43 outings in his first season under Antonio Conte, did not do enough to impress.

He still has one year left on his current Stamford Bridge deal and according to previous reports, is set to pen a new two-year extension.

However, that is unlikely to afford him a future in west London, with Milan reportedly holding an option to buy that becomes an obligation should certain conditions be met.

Bakayoko is unlikely to be the only midfielder leaving in the final few days of the summer transfer window. Former Leicester City man Danny Drinkwater has been linked with Championship outfit Reading, whilst the likes of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have uncertain futures after their respective loan spells last term.
