Chelsea transfer rumours: Marc-Andre ter Stegen approach, Granovskaia battle with Liverpool

Chelsea broke the club-record for a transfer window this summer, spending more than £220m on a whole host of talent.

And while they signed Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, and Thiago Silva, among others, rumours of what might have been continue to percolate.

The Blues reportedly tried to sign a different goalkeeper, some players who had fallen out of favour under Frank Lampard were linked with moves away, and the prospect of signing talented youngsters is on the club's radar too.

Here are the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.

What is Project Big Picture?

Failed approach for Barcelona star

Chelsea reportedly made an approach to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, reports Mundo Deportivo.

The Blues were in communication with Ter Stegen’s representatives to try and secure his signature.

It is claimed that Chelsea were trying to convince the German not to sign a new deal at the Spanish giants.

The 28-year-old, who also attracted interest from Juventus and Inter Milan, has two years left on his contract.

But, that never came to be and Petr Cech is said to have played a huge role in Chelsea pursuing a deal for Edouard Mendy, but he seemingly wasn't their first choice.

Exits for Chelsea duo fall through

Left backs Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri were linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge during the international transfer window.

And yet, here they still are.

But it was so close to not turning out that way as according to Calciomercato, Juventus were keen on signing Emerson.

Andrea Pirlo's side were reportedly close to a move but following Chelsea's 3-3 draw with West Brom, where Alonso reportedly wanted to watch the second half from the team bus after being substituted early on, but as a result, the London club were then keen to offload Alonso instead.

The report suggests Alonso’s demands made a move to Juventus very difficult, and there was not enough time for Pirlo’s side to complete a deal for Emerson after reopening negotiations on October 4, the day before the deadline.

The arrival of Ben Chilwell from Leicester City, who is likely to make the left-back role his own, had prompted this transfer episode.

Blues in race with Liverpool to sign teenage stars

Chelsea are reportedly trying to sign Grimsby Town youngsters Louis Boyd and Ben Grist, reports The Athletic.

The midfielders made their debuts as 15-year-olds earlier this season, and Boyd made history after becoming the League Two club's youngest-ever debutant and goalscorer when he scored against Harrogate Town in the EFL Trophy.

The report states that Grimsby are anticipating making a £700,000 loss this season due to the impact of coronavirus, and this could lead to the club selling in-demand players.

The Mariners have only played three matches in League Two this season after a player tested positive for COVID-19.

Liverpool are also interested in signing the teenagers, who are understood to be currently doing their GCSEs.
