Chelsea transfer rumours: Manchester United deliver Declan Rice blow, Olivier Giroud boost

Chelsea have suffered a minor setback in the Premier League title race as they have fallen to back-to-back defeats.

The Blues were beaten at Everton 1-0, and then threw away a one-goal lead against Wolves where they lost 2-1. This dip in form shouldn't concern Frank Lampard too much, but with the January transfer window edging closer, he could be tempted to have a gander for some new signings.

With that said, here is the latest round-up of transfer stories and rumours on Chelsea.

Rice competition

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of reported Chelsea target Declan Rice, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Blues have been long-linked with a move for Rice, but they could now face some serious competition for the West Ham United star's signature.

The Hammers demanded £80m for the England international over the summer, which put Chelsea off making a bid. However, some reports have stated that Lampard is still full of admiration for Rice and could make a move for him when the January transfer window opens.

Rice needs convincing to stay

With the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United both reportedly interested, Rice will take some convincing to stay at West Ham.

That's according to The Athletic, who are reporting that the 21-year-old is unlikely to want to stay at the London Stadium with the two Premier League giants keen on him.

Rice's current contract with the Hammers expire in 2024 but the east London-based club have reportedly offered him a new deal to convince him to stay put. However, the England international is keen to further his career and win trophies, which may be more likely away from West Ham.

Green wants Giroud contract

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Rob Green believes his old club would rather hand Olivier Giroud a new contract than sell him in January.

Giroud's form recently has seen him score seven goals in as many games in all competitions, and with his current deal up at the end of the season, Green has been speaking on the Frenchman's future.

The ex-Blues shot-stopper told Stadium Astro: “I think it’s a massive transfer window in January, I think there will be suitors and people will come in for him and it’s in Chelsea’s interests to keep him there. That might include giving him a new contract.”

The France striker has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, as well as new MLS side Inter Miami.
