Chelsea transfer rumours: Liverpool battle for wonderkids, Emerson and Marcos Alonso failed bids

Chelsea’s summer business was very impressive and certainly excited the majority of the club’s fan-base.

Frank Lampard’s side brought in seven new players at Stamford Bridge - spending more than £200milion on those signings.

However, in order to spend that much, the club will surely be looking to offload the unneeded players in the near future.

Here are the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.

Chelsea to battle Liverpool for teenage duo

Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly set to go head-to-head in a battle to sign two teenagers from Grimsby Town.

According to the Athletic, Louis Boyd and Ben Grist are being "closely monitored" by a number of teams, with the Premier League giants considering bids.

The 15-year-olds both made their club debuts this season, and the club's financial pressures could force them into selling one or both of the pair.

Grimsby believe they could lose around £700,000 this season due to the impact of coronavirus, and a big move to a Premier League side for the pair could help to alleviate those concerns.

The reason Juventus' bids for Emerson and Alonso failed

Ben Chilwell arrived at Chelsea from Leicester City this summer on a deal worth around £45m, with the left-back scoring and assisting on his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace.

That transfer shone the light on two players at Stamford Bridge who looked likely to leave the club: Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri.

The duo were reportedly of interest to a number of clubs, with Juventus apparently coming close to a deal for at least one of them.

Calciomercato state that the Italian giants have been keen on a move for Emerson for a while now, and had proposed an offer to Chelsea.

Juve were willing to take Emerson on loan with an option to buy. However, Lampard's decision to take Alonso out of the team following his performance against West Brom changed things "significantly".

The Blues reportedly changed tact, making a "continuous attempt" to move on Alonso instead. They were said to offer the Spanish defender on loan, but Juve would not agree on an obligation to buy.

Though Juve are said to have continued with their bid to sign Emerson instead, there was no agreement reached on a potential deal for either player, despite attempts from the Serie A giants.
