Chelsea transfer rumours: Hakim Ziyech eager to leave, Newcastle overtaken in midfielder race

Chelsea sit top of the Premier League table with 11 matches played but the January transfer window could well prove crucial if they want to stay there until May.

Three points separate them from Manchester City and West Ham while four sit between the Blues and Liverpool. But there is every chance that gap could narrow before the winter window.

Thomas Tuchel will be desperate to add a domestic title to the Champions League won in his first campaign but a tough run of games with Leicester City, Juventus and Manchester United pose a threat.

With all that in mind, football.london runs you through the latest transfer rumours swirling around Stamford Bridge.

Who?

Hakim Ziyech

What?

The Morroccan winger has fallen out of favour under Thomas Tuchel in recent weeks and has failed to impress when chances have come his way, leading to reports he could be on his way out of the club.

Borussia Dortmund are apparently interested in Ziyech and, what's more, the player himself would be keen to move as well.

"Now reports in Germany suggest Dortmund are eyeing the 28-year-old as they look to bring in January reinforcements," the report states.

"A move could take the form of a loan in January, with Chelsea not keen on losing the play permanently.

"But Ziyech is desperate for regular football and would be open to a new start."

Who?

Adrien Rabiot

TEAMtalk

What?

Newcastle were previously reported to be favourites to land Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot but now it appears Chelsea have overtaken them in the race.

"Chelsea have moved to the front of the queue of clubs looking to take Adrien Rabiot from Juventus, according to reports in Italy," the report from TEAMtalk says.

"He has been tipped to trade one black-and-white shirt for another by ditching Juventus for Newcastle.

"However, in an early reality check for their new ambitions, Newcastle have been overtaken in the race to sign Rabiot. According to Calciomercato, the midfielder is now more likely to join Chelsea."

Who?

Billy Gilmour

Where?

Football Insider

What?

Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour has been tipped to move to Leeds United during the January transfer window on loan, after Marcelo Bielsa previously showed an interest in the Scotland international.

The tip came from Kevin Phillips, who suggests Bielsa's style of play would suit the player perfectly.

“There’s no point in him going back to Chelsea because he will hardly play," Phillips said in an interview with Football Insider.

“He should go back out on loan to somewhere like Leeds. Bielsa plays good football, they aren’t rooted to the bottom of the Premier League, and he will probably get more game time.

“Leeds play more of the type of football Gilmour is suited to, so it would be a great move for him."
