Chelsea transfer rumours: Haaland tipped to sign, fresh Alaba hope, defender set for medical

Chelsea have been one of the more quieter teams in the January transfer window.

As was not the case in what turned out to be a fantastic summer for Blues head coach Frank Lampard as he was heavily backed by owner Roman Abramovich with significant funds to improve the first-team squad.

The club spent over £200m on seven major additions and also managed to keep hold of N'Golo Kante as well as Callum Hudson-Odoi - two players linked with moves away.

Edouard Mendy completed the new additions at Stamford Bridge which also includes Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Thiago Silva, and Kai Havertz.

Whilst the west London outfit have been quiet so far this month, there's still time to get at least one new face in.

With that said, here are the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.

Tomori set for AC Milan medical

It's just a matter of time before Fikayo Tomori joins AC Milan on loan.

Reports in Italy - as per Sport Witness - claim the deal could be completed in 'the next couple of days' after the defender said 'yes' to a move.

Furthermore, it's claimed that Tomori is 'ready' for his medical.

Interestingly, the Serie A outfit's technical director and club legend Paolo Maldini has delivered his verdict on the Chelsea defender.

"We wanted Fikayo Tomori also last summer," Maldini told Sky Italia. "He's always been one of our targets.

"He's perfect for our squad - we're working on the last details."

Alaba hope

Chelsea appear to have suffered a blow in their attempts to sign David Alaba.

According to reports in Spain, the Austria international has reached an agreement with Real Madrid to join on a free transfer when his contract at Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season.

In addition, Alaba is set to sign a four-year deal with the La Liga giants in the coming weeks as he will get the chance to fulfill his dream of playing for Los Blancos.

This news comes as a blow to Chelsea as well as the likes of Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain who had been linked with a move for the 28-year-old.

But is the deal done?

Well, Bild have reported that nothing has been signed just yet which could be a glimmer of hope for Chelsea.

Haaland tipped to sign

The big Chelsea transfer news this week has centered around Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

According to The Athletic, the Blues are prepared to make Haaland their most expensive signing ever- eclipsing the £71.6m paid for Kepa Arrizabalaga in the summer of 2018.

Although the Norway international has a £66.6m release clause in his contract with the Bundesliga giants, it cannot be triggered until the end of the 2021-22 campaign, which means the Blues will need to splash the cash this summer to pip their rivals to his coveted signature.

However, there's some bad news.

Real Madrid are the current favourites at 3/1 as Zinedine Zidane looks to bolster his attacking options.

Chelsea are in the running with Betfair at 6-1, making them third favourites to sign Haaland who may be soon granted the opportunity to work under his idol.

In quick-fire Q&A with ESPN, Haaland was previously asked who the one player he’d want to have played with that’s retired and replied: "Frank Lampard."
