Chelsea transfer rumours: Declan Rice doubts emerge as Fikayo Tomori loan could be blocked

After spending north of £200million in the summer transfer window, vast sums are not wildly anticipated during Chelsea's January transfer activity.

However, given their recent poor form, losing four of their last six matches, pressure is mounting on Frank Lampard and that could translate to activity in the transfer market.

We have an update on the hottest target and whether Lampard and the club are in agreement over whether he is the right player to pursue.

Chelsea also have a myriad of youth and reserve players who they must shift to make space in the squad and on the wage bill. We have updates on two potential outgoings.

Here is a round-up of the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.

No Declan Rice transfer in January

Chelsea chiefs have Rice doubts

Chelsea chiefs reportedly have doubts over whether West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice is of the required quality to make the step up to a top-six, Champions League-competing team.

Rice has long been a target of Chelsea's and could have joined his boyhood club in the summer had West Ham lowered their reported £80m price tag.

However, in a Q and A on the Athletic's YouTube channel, David Ornstein revealed that, while Lampard is a huge admirer of Rice and is keen to add him to the squad, not everyone at Chelsea is fully convinced that the 21-year-old is good enough.

Ornstein reports that some are hesitant to commit to the massive financial investment it would require to prise Rice away from West Ham and are still a little unsure as to whether he has fixed some of the weaknesses he possessed when he was released from the Chelsea academy as a teenager.

Tomori loan blocked

Fikayo Tomori could see a proposed loan move to Leeds United blocked as Chelsea look to hang onto depth at the previously well-stocked centre-back position, per recent reports.

Tomori, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have served as back-ups so far this season, with Kurt Zouma and Thiago Silva manning the starting roles.

At least one was expected to leave in January, with Tomori strongly linked with a loan move to Leeds, who are desperate for a centre-back help amid an injury crisis. However, as reported by the Sun, Christensen's recent injury could put Tomori's loan in jeopardy.

Christensen suffered a knee injury in the draw against Aston Villa earlier this season and has undergone scans to reveal the extent of the issue. If he is set to be out for an extended period of time, Chelsea could block Tomori's loan, per the report.

Norwich, Stoke have Piazon interest

According to Tutto Mercato Web via Football League World, Championship clubs Norwich City and Stoke City have registered interest in Chelsea midfielder Lucas Piazon, who is set to return to Chelsea this month with his loan with Rio Ave was cut short.

Piazon has had seven different loan spells during his time with Chelsea, for whom he has made only three first-team appearances. However, Tutto Mercato reports that Chelsea could finally offload the midfielder on a permanent basis, with Norwich and Stoke both said to be interested.

Piazon has previously played in the Championship with Fulham and Reading and has experience of English football as a result.

He is in the final year of his contract, but Chelsea have a one-year club extension that they can exercise to ensure that they receive a transfer fee instead of losing him on a free in the summer.
