While the international summer transfer window has only just shut, clubs are already plotting for the January market.
With a quick turnaround between the two windows, clubs have less than three months before they can sign players from overseas again.
That means the rumour mill will keep turning for some time yet.
With that in mind, here are the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.
Hammers agreed significant Tomori deal
TalkSPORT claims West Ham United agreed to pay a significant fee for every game Fikayo Tomori missed on loan before the Chelsea defender snubbed a deadline-day move.
The Hammers and Chelsea had agreed a deal for Tomori to move on loan for first-team football but the 22-year-old decided to stay at Stamford Bridge.
The report says West Ham were prepared to pay £50,000 for every game Tomori was not selected to play for them alongside a huge loan fee.
Hudson-Odoi clauses
Bild (via Sports Mole) claim that Chelsea wanted a similar deal in order to send Callum Hudson-Odoi to Bayern Munich.
The Blues are reported to have demanded that Bayern field Hudson-Odoi in a set amount of matches this season - and also for the European champions to pay £70m if the attacker played a substantial number of games.
Bayern were unwilling to compromise meaning negotiations broke down relatively quickly.
Pjanic swap
Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea were close to completing a deal for Miralem Pjanic before his move to Barcelona.
The 30-year-old left Juventus to join Barca for £59m in June, with Brazilian midfielder Arthur moving in the opposite direction.
Yet, prior to Maurizio Sarri's sacking in August, Juve were also keen on Jorginho.
They offered a swap for Pjanic and the Chelsea midfielder, which came close to being finalised.
United wanted Palmieri
Romano also says Manchester United identified Emerson Palmieri as a potential deadline day signing.
The Reds strengthened their left-back position by signing Alex Telles on deadline day.
Yet they had identified Palmieri as a potential alternative had they not been able to land Telles from Porto.
