Chelsea transfer rumours: Antonio Conte's two transfer mistakes, fresh Napoli interest in Emerson

Chelsea may try to balance their books in January after spending over £200million in the summer transfer window to strengthen Frank Lampard's squad.

There were a few players who were heavily linked with a move away from the Blues over the summer, but for whatever reason the deals didn't materialise.

As we approach the busiest period of the season, the coronavirus pandemic, injuries and suspensions may change how some teams approach the mid-season transfer window.

With that said, here we have gathered the latest Chelsea transfer stories.

Conte wanted Lukaku and Van Dijk

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has revealed he tried to sign Romelu Lukaku and Virgil van Dijk when he was in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea injury list ahead of Newcastle clash

Lukaku, who was a Blues player from 2011 until 2014, was a target of Conte, who also wanted to sign the imperious Van Dijk, who has been a revelation since signing for Premier League champions Liverpool in January 2018.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Conte, who now manages Lukaku at Inter Milan, said: “I asked for two players and we were very, very close after we won the league. One player was Romelu Lukaku, the second player was Virgil van Dijk, and these two players were very, very close.

"We were in contact every day and I always said that with these two players we would improve my team by 30%. I think maybe we lost the momentum to bring Chelsea at the very top and then to stay for many years."

Emerson attracts Napoli interest

Italian side Napoli are now chasing the signature of Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri, according to Italian newspaper Repubblica and per Chelsea-News.

Emerson is now Lampard's third-choice left-back at the Blues, behind Ben Chilwell, who joined in the summer from Leicester City, and Marcos Alonso, who remains at the club.

The Naples-based side are interested in working out a loan deal for the Italy international in January. The Serie A side would then be keen to sign him on a permanent basis at the end of the 2020/21 season.

PSG urged to sign Kante

Former PSG midfielder Eric Rabesandratana has urged his old side to "break the bank" and sign Chelsea star N'Golo Kante.

Kante has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent times and Rabesandratana has tipped the French giants to bring in the Blues midfielder.

The ex-PSG man said, as reported by the Express: “I would like to say that if I were a leader at PSG I would break the bank to sign N’Golo Kante.

“Kante is the player who would allow PSG to win the Champions League. We do not need Lionel Messi or anyone else.”
