Chelsea transfer roundup: Blues knocked down Kai Havertz price as Ampadu faces decision

Chelsea’s impressive summer transfer window continued on Friday with the signing of playmaker Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Havertz became Frank Lampard's sixth new recruit ahead of the new season, following the signings of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr.

The Blues still have a few irons in the fire, though, and are hopeful of concluding further deals while also looking to offload several out-of-favour players.

Here is the latest transfer news involving Chelsea.

Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is set to join AC Milan on a season-long loan for the second time in three seasons.

The Frenchman spent the 2018/19 campaign at the Milanese club before heading back to Monaco last season.

However, Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio claims he is now returning to Italy.

It is reported that Chelsea will receive a loan fee of £2.6million with the Rossoneri having the option of signing the midfielder on a permanent basis for £26.7m at the end of the campaign.

Despite Bayer Leverkusen hoping to receive a fee of around £90million for Havertz, Chelsea reportedly knocked down this price.

ESPN claims the Blues have paid £62m upfront for the German star, who signed on Friday in a deal which could reach up to £71m.

Havertz underwent a medical on Friday before the Blues announced his move.

Giggs calls for Ampadu decision on future

Wales boss Ryan Giggs believes Ethan Ampadu has a big decision to make on his future at Stamford Bridge.

The teenager - who has made 12 first-team appearances for the Blues - spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig but his spell was beset by injury problems.

With Chelsea having signed Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr this summer, his opportunities at Stamford Bridge may again be limited.

"It's that balance over whether they're at a top club and surrounded by top players and improving every day, but ultimately you need minutes on the pitch,” Giggs said, as cited by Sky Sports.

"That's a decision for Ethan. I've talked to him a lot about that.

"I think last year was maybe a little bit different as he had injuries. You could see from the game he played against Tottenham in the Champions League he was outstanding.

"Nothing fazes him, he's a quality player, and he just needs to keep fit now.”
