Chelsea transfer roundup: Blues could hijack Ake deal, Ter Stegen and Chilwell latest

Chelsea’s first season under Frank Lampard has been a productive one. Champions League football has been secured, and there is still an FA Cup final to play against Arsenal.

But there is plenty of room for improvement, with the club already making moves in the transfer market.

The signings of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have been completed, and there are likely to be more to come as the Blues look to close the gap to Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

Here we take a look at all the latest Chelsea transfer talk.

Chilwell still priority despite alternative options

Chelsea are still targeting Leicester ’s Ben Chilwell this summer and have not yet pursued any other left-backs, according to Goal.

The Blues have been linked with the likes of Nicholas Tagliafico and Marc Cucurella as potentially cheaper options.

But they are single-minded in their efforts to sign Chilwell, despite Leicester’s insistence that he is not for sale.

The 23-year-old has excelled for the Foxes this season and is currently under contract until 2024. Lampard, though, is reportedly determined to sign Chilwell, who could cost as much as £80million.

Chelsea make offer for Barcelona goalkeeper

Chelsea have made an offer for Marc-Andre ter Stegen as they look to sign a new goalkeeper, according to a report from Cadena Ser.

The German goalkeeper only has two years left on his contract at Barcelona and is yet to agree terms on a new deal.

It has led to speculation over a potential exit, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich reportedly interested.

Ter Stegen, 28, has been asked to take a pay cut, which could mean offers from elsewhere are more lucrative.

It is clear that Chelsea are eager to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper following the unconvincing performances of Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Blues could hijack Manchester City’s Ake deal

Chelsea have the option to match Manchester City’s £41m bid for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake.

A clause included in the 25-year-old’s contract when he joined the Cherries from Stamford Bridge means an offer would have to be accepted.

Ake could be an option for Lampard if he intends to strengthen at centre-back, although as things stand he appears to be on the verge of a move to City.

The Dutchman might also take some convincing if he is to return to his former club instead of joining up with Pep Guardiola in Manchester.
