Chelsea transfer roundup: Alaba and Maignan latest as Blues keen on Oblak team-mate

Frank Lampard is understandably drawing all his focus towards the FA Cup final this weekend, with the chance to secure the first trophy of his fledgling managerial career.

The Blues boss will attempt to become the 18th man to win the competition as both a player and manager, but Chelsea fans can rest assured that no sooner has Lampard heard the full-time whistle, his mind will be back on how to improve his squad.

With that in mind here are the latest transfer rumours.

Chelsea keeping tabs on Alaba as contract situation develops

Manchester City and Chelsea are watching David Alaba, according to the Telegraph.

Alaba, 28, is moving into the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich and it remains unclear whether he will seek an extension or walk away from the club.

That has alerted City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Chelsea to the defender’s potential availability next summer.

Lampard is keen to strengthen his defensive options but appreciates that he will not have a bottomless pit of money this summer.

Alaba’s quality and versatility - he can play as a centre-back, left-back or central midfielder - represent part of his appeal to Europe’s elite, but Chelsea will have to play a patient game if they are to convince him his future rests in west London.

French goalkeeper ‘top priority’ for Chelsea

The future of Mike Maignan could rest at Stamford Bridge, according to Le10Sport.

Maignan came through the ranks at PSG before joining Lille and enjoyed a strong season in Ligue 1.

Those performances have attracted interest from England, with Le10Sport previously linking both Chelsea and Tottenham to the goalkeeper.

The report claims any move by Spurs is contingent on the club first moving Hugo Lloris, while it is a similar story at Chelsea with Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Spaniard has been deemed surplus to requirements by the Blues, with Lampard keen to replace the former Athletic Bilbao man this summer.

Chelsea interested in Oblak team-mate

Jose Maria Gimenez has become a defensive lynchpin for Atletico Madrid (SIPA USA/PA Images)

Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez remains on Chelsea’s radar as a potential defensive option, according to ESPN.

Gimenez, 25, joined Atletico from Danubio for a mere €900,000 (£810,000) in 2013 and has become a lynchpin of Diego Simeone’s side.

The Uruguayan international is now being linked with a move to Chelsea and ESPN claim the Blues have scouted the defender on several occasions.

Chelsea have entertained several defensive options this summer as Lampard seeks to correct his side’s leaky defence.

Gimenez’s almost £109million release clause complicates matters, but it has been speculated that a good working relationship between the clubs means that fee could be negotiated down.
