Chelsea transfer round-up: Ross Barkley could make permanent Blues exit

Chelsea’s impressive form continued on Saturday with a dominant 2-0 win over Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

That result briefly took Frank Lampard’s side to the top of the Premier League table, and there appears to be a real balance to the Blues’ squad after a productive summer transfer window.

With January fast approaching, though, Chelsea may look to add one or two new faces, while several fringe players have been linked with moves elsewhere.

Here are all the latest transfer rumours from Stamford Bridge.

Giroud to ‘make decision’ in January

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has revealed his intention to “make a decision” over his future in January.

The Frenchman has been on the periphery so far this season, with Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham in good form.

But Giroud is eager to play regular first-team football with next summer’s Euros on the horizon.

“I am aware of my situation. I know the score. We have discussed it again,” he told Telefoot.

“I will have to take a decision in January but I hope to take the right decision. I have always done that of course.

“It is concerning because I believe I still have a role to play in the team especially after having a very good end to the last season and I contributed to qualifying for the Champions League.”

Marseille and Bordeaux are believed to be interested in signing the 34-year-old, though he is said to have his sights set on a move to another major European club.

Beckham plotting move for Chelsea striker

David Beckham could look to bring Olivier Giroud to Inter Miami in January as speculation over the striker’s future continues.

The MLS team are looking to add more high-profile players to their squad after a difficult first season.

And Giroud, who has managed just six appearances for Chelsea this season, could be a target.

The France international is seeking out more regular football ahead of the Euro 2020 finals next summer, and joining up with former Chelsea teammate Gonzalo Higuain at Inter Miami might appeal to Giroud.

Chelsea star tipped to make loan move permanent in January

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley could join Aston Villa on a permanent basis in January, according to former England international Danny Mills.

The 26-year-old has impressed on loan at Villa Park, with two goals to his name and a burgeoning midfield partnership with Jack Grealish exciting fans.

And Mills has suggested Barkley could be the subject of a January bid from Villa.

“He’s played very, very well, he seems happy and I’m sure Villa, if they haven’t already, will approach him and say ‘If we can make it happen, would you want to come on a permanent basis?’” he told Football Insider.

“Chelsea might push the price up if he keeps doing well and that’s why they might want to get a deal done in January. If he goes on to a really good second half of the season that price is only going to go up.”

Barkley has been at Chelsea since 2018, when he was signed from Everton for £15m.
