Chelsea transfer plan could cost millions extra because of Man United's world record deal

Chelsea will target Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell this summer.

Frank Lampard has already strengthened his attack with the signing of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and a deal for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner could be completed in the coming days.

The Blues have met the Germany international's £53million release clause and will offer the forward a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

But Frank Lampard and director Marina Granovskaia are looking to get further ahead of their Premier League rivals by completing the bulk of their business before the transfer window even opens.

And football.london understands Chelsea will ramp up their interest in signing a new left back as the next priority.

Chilwell is Lampard's first-choice defensive target but Chelsea continue to monitor Ajax's Nicolas Tagliafico and Porto's Alex Telles should a deal not be agreed with the Foxes.

Chilwell is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge but Leicester, who are almost guaranteed Champions League football next season, will not be pressured to sell unless the offer meets their expectations.

According to Bleacher Report, Leicester value Chilwell in the same bracket as the fee they received for Harry Maguire last summer.

The England defender moved to Manchester United for £80million - a world record fee for a defender.

Leicester's asking price for Maguire eclipses the £75million Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk in January 2018.
