Chelsea transfer news: Talks open for Bundesliga striker as Todd Boehly completes double deal

Here is your Chelsea transfer round-up on Sunday, January 8.

Chelsea complete duo signing

Chelsea have confirmed the signings of David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos. The duo's arrival were announced on Saturday after previously agreeing deals to move to England.

Fofana joins on a six-and-a-half year deal with an option for an extra year from Molde while Santos arrives from Brazilian side Vasco da Gama. Chelsea have now made three signings this month following the arrival of defender Benoit Badiashile on Thursday.

Thuram talks 'opened'

Chelsea have reportedly opened talks with Borussia Monchengladbach over a possible January transfer for Marcus Thuram.

Thuram's contract in Germany expires in June and has a number of potential suitors to choose from, including Bayern Munich and Manchester City. The striker has scored 10 goals in 15 Bundesliga appearances this season and was part of the France squad that reached the World Cup final in Qatar last year.

Clubs will be able to secure the 25-year-old on a free transfer in the summer but Chelsea are understood to be keen to bring him to Stamford Bridge this month. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues have 'opened talks to explore' a move for Thuram this month as Graham Potter's side remain desperate for a natural goalscorer.

Real Madrid edge Gvardiol

Real Madrid look set to overtake Chelsea in the race for defender Josko Gvardiol. For much of 2022 Chelsea were after Gvardiol, thinking they had agreed a day over the summer before seeing him sign a new contract.

Now, according to Alfredo Pedulla, Madrid have made the first offer for the 20-year-old. With two meetings in the past two weeks, they have blown Chelsea's initial €80million (£70million) offer out of the water with a massive €120million (£105million) bid split over two instalments.
