Chelsea transfer news, rumours, gossip and deals from deadline day

Chelsea stayed quiet on January transfer deadline day.

The Blues were busy this window, with the signing Gonzalo Higuaín from Juventus for £8.1m and allowing Álvaro Morata to join Atletico Madrid on loan. They also signed Christian Pulisic, who will remain on loan at Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season.

But further incomings were not to be but they did manage to keep hold of Willian and Callum Hudson-Odoi despite strong interest from PSG and Bayern Munich respectively.

Good morning and welcome to our coverage of Chelsea's deadline day.

The Blues could be busy today with the futures of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Willian firmly up in the air while a replacement for Cesc Fabregas is yet to be found.

We'll bring you all the latest news plus all the done deals and the juiciest gossip throughout the day right here so don't touch that dial.

Without further ado, off we go.

Let's start with Willian and a possible shock exit.

Paris St Germain have launched a late bid for the Chelsea playmaker, the Daily Mail reports.

The big-spending French giants are targeting the Brazilian as a replacement for record signing Neymar after he was signed off for 10 weeks after fracturing a metatarsal, the paper says.

The Blues are said to value the 30-year-old at £40million and he has 18 months left on his contract.

Barcelona are also said to have made an approach, while Chinese club Dalian Yifang have also reportedly showed strong interest.

West Ham are poised to revive their efforts to bring on Olivier Giroud after concerns were raised over the fitness of Marko Arnautovic, the Daily Mirror says.

Chelsea's 32-year-old forward has been in the Hammers' cross hairs before - although he ended up heading from Arsenal to Stamford Bridge.

The Frenchman has reportedly already turned down a £9million-a-year offer from Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang.

Who will replace Cesc Fabregas? That is the question.

Abdoulaye Doucoure is an option according to the Daily Mirror.

The in-form midfielder is catching the eye this season with Paris Saint-Germain also  interested. But the Hornets insist the 26-year-old is staying put, for now at least.

Gary Cahill has emerged as a possible target for Juventus today.

Yes, really.

The Old Lady are in the market for defensive cover after an injury to Leonardo Bonucci and the sale of Mehdi Benatia.

It wouldn't be deadline day without West Ham being linked with every striker conceivably available.

Olivier Giroud has been linked already this morning, while Michy Batshuayi is another Chelsea forward potentially in Manuel Pellegrini's thoughts.

Batshuayi has endured a torrid time on loan at Valencia after similarly struggling at Borussia Dortmund last season, but West Ham are considering a move for the Belgian, according to Sky sources.

It is not the first time the club have been linked with Batshuayi, and came close to signing him before the striker joined Chelsea in 2016.

Everton are also reported to be interested in Batshuayi.

Batshuayi is not the only Chelsea player potentially making their way across London today.

Injuries to Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere leave West Ham light in midfield, and thus it is no surprise to see them linked with Danny Drinkwater.

The midfielder is some way down the Chelsea pecking order, and could be allowed to leave on loan, particularly if a move for Abdoulaye Doucoure materialises.

Sticking with outgoings, and Davide Zappacosta's stint at Chelsea could come to an end today.

Lazio are the club rumoured to be interested in bringing the Italian back to Serie A, but they are believed to be balking at the £15 million quoted for the right-back.

Remember Lucas Piazon?

The Brazilian is, somehow, still at the club but seems set for a sixth loan move away. Chievo, currently bottom of Serie A, is believed to be the destination for the Brazilian, and Sky Italia are suggesting an option-to-buy will be included in the deal.

PSG are expected to test Chelsea's resolve today with Willian in their sights. With compatriot Neymar sidelined for as many as three months, the Parisians require cover and have identified the Brazilian as a potential target.

Willian has failed to produce consistent performances thus far this season, and there is disquiet amongst Chelsea fans with Callum Hudson-Odoi on the outside looking in despite the Brazilian winger's struggles. Could his departure free up Hudson-Odoi (who now seems sure to stay in London beyond January at the very least) for a run in the side?

Chelsea maintain the player is not for sale, but it is deadline day, and anything can happen...

A couple of rumours floating about that Willian's agents are in Paris at this very moment, and that Chelsea may be willing to part with the player should PSG bid somewhere in the region of £75 million.

12 hours left for deals to be done. Could this be the big transfer of deadline day?

It is not only player movement that Chelsea fans are nattering about this morning.

There is increased disquiet around Maurizio Sarri after the 4-0 defeat at Bournemouth last night, with doubts around the Italian's blind faith in his system a noted point of criticism.

I've seen Guus Hiddink, Jose Mourinho and Frank Lampard among the names bandied about on Twitter today.

Crazy talk, surely...

NEWS.

Michy Batshuayi news.

Ed Aarons of The Guardian is suggesting the player will move to either West Ham or Real Betis after Chelsea agreed terms with the two clubs. Everton may still inject themselves into the reckoning with a late bid, but it seems Batshuayi will have a choice of Stratford or Seville.

Willi or won't he?

It appears that PSG have missed out on Idrissa Gueye with Everton determined to keep the midfielder, potentially freeing up funds to pour into their pursuit of Willian.

With Christian Pulisic arriving in the summer and Callum Hudson-Odoi waiting in the wings, Chelsea do not necessarily need to recruit a replacement. You suspect this one could run and run as the deadline approaches...

Sky Sports are reporting that Watford have received no bids for Abdoulaye Doucoure, and any potential move to Chelsea is unlikely.

A lunchtime lull in chatter about Chelsea's transfer dealings, but the situation as we understand it is that at this time, incomings are unlikely.

Ten hours left in the window.
BREAKING NEWS
CALLUM HUDSON-ODOI WILL NOT JOIN BAYERN MUNICH TODAY

As expected, the Germans will not push for a deal before the window closes, but may well revisit a potential transfer in the summer.

Sky Sports are reporting that Gary Cahill has turned down moves to Monaco and Turin, and that Fulham also hold interest in the experienced centre-half.

We are tracking news of Lucas Piazon's impending move to Chievo, and another of the Chelsea loan army could be making his stint in Italy permanent in the near future.

Full-back Ola Aina has played 16 times for Torino since joining the club on loan in the summer, and the Italian club are now prepared to make that deal permanent.

A figure of €10 million is being quoted.

The latest update on Michy Batshuayi is that Chelsea have agreed loan deals with both Real Betis and West Ham.

Sam Inkersole of football.London has stated that West Ham rate their chances of completing a deal at "about 5%".
