Chelsea transfer news: Gonzalo Higuain remains coy over future after AC Milan's defeat to Juventus

Gonzalo Higuain remained coy over a potential move to Chelsea, after AC Milan's 1-0 defeat to his parent club Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana final on Wednesday.

The Argentinian striker came off the bench for Gennaro Gattuso’s side with just 20 minutes remaining of the defeat in Jeddah, with Chelsea nearing a deal to bring the striker in on loan until the end of the season.

Maurizio Sarri is keen to reunite with the striker, who scored 36 goals in 35 games in his last season under him at Napoli, as the Chelsea manager searches for a replacement for Alvaro Morata who is edging towards a move to Atletico Madrid.

Sarri is keen to bring in a striker who is already familiar with his style of play, despite Chelsea’s reluctance to pursue the 31-year-old due to his age.

Arriving back in Milan after the game, Higuain was mobbed by reporters after Gattuso claimed earlier this week that Higuain’s mind was made up on a move away, but the striker gave little away.

“Were you all waiting for me?” Higuain said.

“If you want to create mess [regarding the Chelsea transfer], I’m not the right person for you in this sense.”

Higuain is on a year-long loan at Milan from Juventus, who signed the striker for €90m in 2016 but was forced out last summer by the club’s move for Cristiano Ronaldo, and Juve chief Pavel Nedved hinted a move may indeed be close.

“It’s not fair to speak about Higuain now,” Nedved said after the game.

“It would be not respectful for him, nor for AC Milan. We’ll speak about him tomorrow.”
