Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to sign a new long-term deal with Chelsea in the coming weeks after a period of informal negotiations between the club and the player’s representatives.
No paperwork has officially been signed, however, both Chelsea and Hudson-Odoi are satisfied the new deal can be concluded without any significant hitches, with the 18-year-old set to earn up to £100,000-per-week.
Despite an initial reluctance to commit his future to the club he joined as a seven-year-old, Hudson-Odoi has steadily been persuaded to remain at Chelsea over the past months, buoyed by a string of first-team appearances under Maurizio Sarri and his full England international debut, before a ruptured Achilles brought an early end to his season.
With Eden Hazard set to depart for Real Madrid and the threat of a transfer ban still looming, Chelsea were adamant that Hudson-Odoi would not leave the club this summer, regardless of the teenager having just 12 months remaining on his current deal.
Hudson-Odoi has been encouraged that Hazard’s departure will present him with more starting opportunities and is expected to be awarded the No 10 shirt once the Belgian’s transfer is eventually finalised.
Bayern Munich retain an interest in Hudson-Odoi, after making four bids worth up to £35m for the player in January. Hudson-Odoi was keen to force through a move at that stage, handing in a transfer request and rejecting contract talks with Chelsea. However, the German champions have been looking at other targets and have now prioritised the signing of Manchester City’s Leroy Sane.
