Chelsea transfer fund could receive boost as Leeds register interest in Michy Batshuayi

Chelsea have been handed a boost in their efforts to sell striker Michy Batshuayi after newly-promoted Leeds United registered an interest.

Frank Lampard has made it clear that the Belgian does not figure in his plans to take the club forward, especially after the signing of Timo Werner and the contract extension handed to Oliver Giroud.

Batshuayi, who is out of contract in west London next summer, scored 10 goals in 29 appearances under Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa during their time together at Marseille.

Having already spent more than £80million on new arrivals, and with deals for Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell still being pursued, the Blues are keen to offload some fringe players and clear Batshuayi's £100,000-a-week wages off their books.

Following injury to Tammy Abraham, Batshuayi was handed a chance to prove his worth to Lampard in January against Manchester United but fell well short and immediately slipped below Giroud in the pecking order.

Crystal Palace are in need of a striker this summer and have also kept a close eye on Batshuayi's situation following a successful loan spell at Selhurst Park in the second half of the 2018-19 season

However, his wages could put a deal beyond Palace.
