Chelsea transfer budget boost as Fikayo Tomori joins AC Milan permanently

Fikayo Tomori has completed a move to AC Milan after the Italian giants triggered an option to buy the Chelsea defender.

The centre back enjoyed a hugely successful loan with the Serie A club, who made clear their intention to turn it into a permanent deal after securing Champions League qualification.

Tomori was considered surplus to requirements at Chelsea, despite former manager Frank Lampard insisting he had a long-term future at the club.

New manager Thomas Tuchel has built his defence around Thiago Silva, Toni Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen – meaning there would be no room for Tomori going forward.

A fee of £25million, rising to £30million also represents good value for Chelsea, who are planning to spend heavily this summer after Roman Abramovich and Tuchel discussed plans to mount a serious challenge to Manchester City next season.

Tomori is expected to be one of a number of departures during this window and he could be joined in Milan with Olivier Giroud, who is a target for the Italians.

He has signed a four-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2025.
