Chelsea transfer boost as Kai Havertz tells Bayer Leverkusen he wants to leave

Chelsea’s hopes of signing Kai Havertz have been given a boost after the midfielder told Bayer Leverkusen he wants to leave this summer.

Havertz has held talks with Leverkusen over his future this week and reports in Germany say the 21-year-old has indicated his desire to move.

Frank Lampard has identified Havertz, who is valued at £70million, as one of his top targets. Real Madrid have also shown interest, but Chelsea are thought to be the favourites to sign him.

The Blues also want to sign Leicester’s England left-back Ben Chilwell and are considering a move for West Ham’s Declan Rice.

Chelsea have moved quickly so far in their rebuild for next season as the current crop look to secure a place in the Champions League.

Timo Werner will join from RB Leipzig, while Hakim Ziyech has been signed from Ajax as Lampard looks to build a squad that can challenge Liverpool and Manchester City for the Premier League title.
