Chelsea transfer ban: Court of Arbitration for Sport confirm Blues appeal against FIFA

The Court of Arbitration for Sport have confirmed that Chelsea have appealed the two-window transfer ban that was imposed on them by FIFA.

The world's footballing governing body imposed the ban after alleging that Chelsea broke regulations regarding the signing of youth players.

Chelsea have lost their appeal to FIFA and, at present, the two transfer window ban stands. So there will be no new arrivals at Stamford Bridge in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The west London outfit can still sign players but the issue is they can't register any. Therefore if a player were to sign this summer they'd have to take a season hiatus or join another club on loan.

However, they can still sign players under the age of 16 during the ban.

Many believed that the Blues would automatically go to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to look to get the ban frozen for the summer in an attempt to get it overturned in the long run.

However, the Blues had to wait for written reasons from FIFA for why their application was denied, before they could go to CAS, which has now been done.

When contacted by football.london on May 21, CAS stated: "At the time of writing [May 21], the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has not received an appeal from Chelsea FC."

However, the Blues have now submitted the appeal which means that CAS will go through the appeal and see if it is worth a hearing.

There is still some uncertainty over what this means for Chelsea's future and the timeline over how long it will take CAS to go through the appeals process, or whether the club have frozen the ban for this summer.

Chelsea have had two plans for the summer. One is whether they can get the ban frozen, while the other plan is by using the youth players and returning loanees to fill the squad.
