Chelsea transfer ban: Frank Lampard's admission as CAS confirm hearing date for appeal

Frank Lampard has given his reaction to Chelsea learning the date for their two-transfer window ban appeal.

This morning it was confirmed by the Court of Arbitration for Sport that the appeal will be heard on Wednesday, November 20.

The Blues were given a two-window ban by FIFA earlier in the year which meant they couldn't register any new players who are above the age of 16 during the summer transfer window.

This is as a result of breaking regulations over the signing of youth players.

However, back in June the west London outfit submitted an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to have this ban reduced to just one which would enable them to make signings in January.

It's taken a while for a date to be set in stone, but later this month Chelsea and Lampard will find out if they can bolster the playing squad during the winter transfer window.

The situation was brought up at Lampard's pre-Ajax press conference on Monday afternoon.

Although, he remained rather coy.

"Well I’ll be very interested of course because it relates but I have no comment as such now. I actually don’t know enough detail. It is a legal matter and I don’t know enough of the legals to even delve," Lampard said.

"But of course I’m interested because it’s obviously going to affect potentially what we can do in January or not. But it is a little bit down my list to be fair because the matter in hand is Ajax tomorrow and the matter in hand then will be Crystal Palace [on Saturday] and etc.

"I’m not going too far ahead with what happens. We’ll see and at that point we’ll see how it affects us."

Lampard was then asked if the Chelsea fans who have said they don't want the ban overturned is a compliment.

"We’re on a good run, though, aren’t we? You never know. I get that. That’s a nice feeling. Of course some players have come in and shown with their opportunities they’ve been given that they can do roles and play well. We are getting results at the moment.

"Listen, I think as Chelsea we will always look to improve in windows if we can, if we’re allowed to and if the players we might look at are better or we feel are adding to the squad.

"But at the minute I’m very happy with what I’ve got so I suppose that’s why, hopefully, fans are as well."
