Chelsea transfer ban: CAS update clears up debate over hearing dates

As Didier Drogba said this week, 'it is always a big summer at Chelsea'.

That is certainly going to be the case in west London once again as the Blues look set to change their head coach once again.

However, as it stands there won't be any new players coming in with FIFA having issued a two-window transfer ban on the Blues for breaking regulations over the signing of youth players.

Chelsea have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to try to get the ban overturned, but as yet have not had the ban frozen for the summer.

CAS released a list of hearings that go up to August 14, with Chelsea's case not on it, however that doesn't necessarily mean that the Blues won't be heard by the middle of the summer.

A spokesperson for CAS told football.london: "Hearing dates are not fixed in any particular order. They are set once the procedure is ready to be heard and according to the availability of the parties and arbitrators involved."

Although this does mean that Chelsea's appeal could be heard in this time, it is still very unlikely that it is the case and the Blues are facing the summer without any transfers.

While the Blues have appealed for the transfer ban to be overturned, they are still yet to file another appeal to have the ban 'stayed' while the appeals process is ongoing.

The Blues can still submit this at any time, but having not done so yet suggests that they are willing to let it play out and will not be adding to the squad right now.

Chelsea's uncertainty this summer is continuing, with the Blues still waiting for Maurizio Sarri to leave after agreeing a deal with Juventus for a return to Serie A.
