Chelsea transfer ban appeal: Verdict could see ban lifted in time for the January window

Chelsea's appeal against their Fifa transfer ban will be heard at the Court of Arbitration for Sport on November 20.

The date was finally confirmed by CAS on Monday morning with a verdict expected before the January transfer window opens in the New Year.

The Blues have already served half of their one-year suspension after being found guilty of breaking rules on signing youth players from abroad.

The club did not attempt to freeze the FIFA punishment while launching their appeal to CAS but have always denied any wrongdoing.

Fifa claimed Chelsea broke 150 rules involving 71 players. However, Chelsea are believed to be arguing they should be given the same opportunity to accept a fine as Manchester City, who paid £315,000 in August for breaching rules on transfers of young players.

The rule which allowed this came into effect in July – Chelsea were originally punished in March.

The Blues were prevented from signing players in Frank Lampard’s first window in charge but were permitted to make Mateo Kovacic’s loan move from Real Madrid permanent and had already agreed a £58million deal with Borussia Dortmund for Christian Pulisic prior to Fifa’s initial judgement.
