Chelsea paid more money to agents than any other Premier League club in the year ending February 2021, new statistics have revealed.

Aligned with their spending spree of more than £200million during the summer window, the Blues also forked out more than £35m to agents and intermediaries involved with the deals.

The Football Association (FA) have published the annual figures covering new contracts and signings for the period from the close of the January 2020 window to the end of the same window in 2021.

Figures show that Premier League clubs paid a whopping £272m in agent and intermediary fees across those 12 months, with Chelsea making up more than 12 per cent of that sum.

Despite the pandemic Premier League clubs’ payments to agents increased from £263million for the year before.

Under Frank Lampard, who was replaced by Thomas Tuchel in January, Chelsea went on an enormous summer spending spree which saw Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Edouard Mendy all arrive.

Thiago Silva was signed on a free transfer, while there were a number of new contracts awarded during the time period covered by these figures, all of which carry a cost when it comes to agents involved in the deal.

Manchester City paid out the second-highest total in intermediary fees at just over £30m, while their rivals Manchester United paid out just under £30m.

In London, Arsenal and Tottenham were both around £16.5m. West Ham paid out £9.7m, Fulham £9.3m and Crystal Palace £6.8m.
