Chelsea told to make major Billy Gilmour loan decision following shocking Norwich City incident

Former Premier League striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has suggested Chelsea should recall Billy Gilmour following the x-rated chants he was subjected to by Norwich City fans.

The Scotland midfielder has endured a frustrating loan spell with the Canaries thus far having originally joined the East Anglia outfit for the season.

He fell out of contention under Daniel Farke before winning his place back in the side under new boss Dean Smith.

Despite Gilmour’s fortunes being somewhat slightly improved, the same cannot be said of Norwich, with the team having lost their last five Premier League games and now looking destined for a swift return to the Championship.

During the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Tuesday, Gilmour was subjected to some X-rated chants insinuating that he should be sent back to Chelsea.

As a result, Agbonlahor has instructed the Blues to bring him back to Stamford Bridge sooner rather than later.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “I hope the home fans wouldn’t sing that because he’s a 20-year-old footballer, we’ve seen what he’s done in a Scotland shirt, seen what he’s done for Chelsea.

“If I am Chelsea now, I’m bringing him back now - ‘pack your stuff, get yourself back and we’re going to find you a club in January that are going to play to your strengths’.

“He’s playing with Championship players. They’re not good enough, the players he’s playing with. He needs to play with players that want to play football, with him, his sort of football. He's going to waste six months of his career staying there until the end of the season. I’d drag him back.”

Whilst the Blues have been urged to recall Gilmour, the player himself has previously highlighted his motivation at making the best of his time away from Chelsea.

Talking last month, he said: “Of course it’s frustrating, not playing, but I’m here at Norwich, I want to do well, I want this loan to go well.

“So for me to play and to pick up points for the team is something that I want to keep building on and help Norwich.”
