Chelsea told to make £103m signing in summer transfer window

Graeme Souness has urged Chelsea to make a move for Jan Oblak this summer after his Man of the Match display against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

Oblak, who single-handedly denied the Reds at Anfield in the Champions League, has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League in the past.

Liverpool and Chelsea were said to be in the running before breaking the transfer record for goalkeepers on Alisson Becker and Kepa respectively.

But with Kepa having struggled for form this season, and having been at fault for a host of goals conceded, rumours have began to emerge stating that Frank Lampard is believed to be looking for a new goalkeeper this summer.

Frank Lampard: Chelsea not favourites in top four race

And Souness, speaking after the Liverpool game on Virgin Media Sport, believes the Blues should look no further than the Slovenia international.

He said: “Do we know how old he is? (to which they replied: 27)

“There you go Chelsea! Chelsea are looking for a goalkeeper. He’s been a top man for a long time.”

While fellow pundit Niall Quinn added: “It was a tale of two goalkeepers. Oblak was absolutely superb, he was making saves all over and was impossible to breach at times.

“Liverpool will look back at this and say, “How did these not go in?!”, but you still felt even after that that it was going to come.

“It wasn’t perfect defending by any stretch, it was down to their ‘keeper who was really keeping it out.”

Should Lampard’s side make a move for Oblak this summer then he would cost the Stamford Bridge club £103million.

That is because the former Benfica man signed a new contract at the Wanda Metropolitano last summer, and still has another three years remaining on his deal.
