Chelsea told to avoid 'stupid' Mason Mount decision amid Liverpool and Arsenal transfer interest

Chelsea legend Emmanuel Petit has urged Mason Mount to snub transfer interest from Liverpool and Arsenal to stay at Stamford Bridge this summer. football.london understands that Jurgen Klopp is a huge admirer of the England international and is seriously interested in signing the 24-year-old.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen on bolstering his midfield options ahead of next season and Mount has now emerged as a target for the Gunners. football.london understands that Arsenal are prioritising a move for West Ham captain Declan Rice, Mount's close friend, in the summer transfer window.

The Hammers will demand a fee in the region of £100million to let Rice leave the London Stadium this summer, which could see the Gunners shift their focus to a move for Mount instead. Liverpool are looking to rebuild their midfield ahead of the 2023/24 campaign and are hoping to take advantage of the Chelsea star's ongoing contract situation at Stamford Bridge - which remains unresolved.

Mount has rejected the Blues' contract proposals so far, with Todd Boehly meeting with the England international to reiterate his importance to the team, moving forward. The 24-year-old does not want to sign a seven-year deal and wants a significant wage increase to stay at the club - allowing him to negotiate a new deal in the future.

Mount will have one year left on his current deal this summer and it looks increasingly likely that he will leave the club. The Chelsea star has been ruled out of the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery to correct pelvic problem.

Ex-Arsenal and Chelsea icon Petit spoke to BoyleSports and made his feelings on the Mount contract saga clear. "Chelsea should try their best to keep Mount," the Frenchman claimed.

"I know he’s been linked with some big clubs, but taking away this season, he has been remarkable and he’s grown up with the club. He was developing into a brilliant midfield player, with goals and assists, and I think this year has been a transition year for Chelsea - so don’t put everything in a rubbish bin.

"He’s one of the last English players in the dressing room, too, which is very important for the fans. Chelsea should not make a stupid decision to sell Mount, he should stay at Chelsea."
