Chelsea have been told not to repeat transfer mistakes of the past with Tammy Abraham.
The Blues have got a fair amount of transfer decisions spot on since the arrival of Roman Abramovich, successfully rising to become one of England and indeed Europe's top clubs due to wise spending in the last two decades.
But they've had their mishaps, too, and two they will never be allowed to forget are Kevin De Bruyne - now one of the world's best midfielders at Manchester City - and Romelu Lukaku - who is showing his worth at Inter Milan - and there are others, including Liverpool superstar Mo Salah.
Chelsea, one would think, will be much more careful when dispensing players having been seen some top players slip through their grasp, but they might be on the verge of doing it again.
Or at least that's according to former Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott, who believes Tammy Abraham could be the next star the Blues go on to regret losing should he leave.
Abraham was a regular under Frank Lampard but has found game time more difficult to come by under Thomas Tuchel, not featuring in Chelsea's last two Premier League games.
“I think he [Abraham] has made it known that he’s not convinced he wants to sign a new contract,” Lescott told Optus Sport.
“Obviously, players want to play, and Tammy has been on loan and done the hard yards in a lower league [before] coming back to Chelsea.
“[And] he’s performed, he hasn’t played [badly], and just for whatever reason he hasn’t been given the opportunity under Tuchel.”
Lescott added: "Do I see him being there long term? I don’t, to be honest, I see him having to go away, and we’ve seen that in the past. I’m sure Chelsea would love to have [Romelu] Lukaku right now, [Kevin de Bruyne], [Mohamed] Salah.
“It’d be slightly naive of Chelsea to think ‘We don’t need Tammy Abraham’.
“He’s proven that he can score goals. I’d like to see him stick around, but I don’t see it happen.”
Abraham, who is under contract until 2023 at Stamford Bridge, has scored 12 goals and assisted six in 30 games across all competitions for Chelsea so far this season.
