Chelsea told exactly what it will take to sign Romelu Lukaku’s dream strike partner next summer

Chelsea would reportedly have to make Erling Haaland the highest-paid player in their history should they pursue a move next summer.

The Norwegian striker was strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge throughout the summer transfer window but a deal proved tricky and the Blues eventually plumped for the club-record £98million return of Romelu Lukaku.

That has done nothing to silence the rumours surrounding Haaland though and even Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has had his say by suggesting that talks were held and could even be revived at some point in the future.

Talking to SportBILD, he said: “We talked about Erling Haaland a couple of times, including during the transfer window. But then it seemed absolutely unrealistic and not at all feasible.

“We talk about him regularly, of course, because he’s a fantastic player and clearly the defining figure at Dortmund, who is a big rival for us in the Champions League.”

He continued: “I don’t think we’ve been really serious about it yet, but let’s see what will happen in the next few weeks.”

Now, Chelsea have been told exactly what it will take to convince Haaland of a move to Stamford Bridge next summer.

According to ESPN, Haaland is demanding a pay packet of £30million a year - which works out as a weekly wage of approximately £500,000.

It would certainly be a big boost to Chelsea to know of the Norwegian’s demands considering his well-broadcast release clause of reportedly £63million that activates next summer.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether the Blues would be willing to pay the fee and indeed Haaland’s lofty wage demands.

A pay packet of such magnitude would instantly make the Dortmund forward the highest-paid player at Stamford Bridge - easily eclipsing the reported £325,000 per week that Romelu Lukaku is currently earning after his move from Inter Milan.

In fact, Haaland would only just be behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the Premier League - the Portuguese superstar earning £510,000 per week after returning to Old Trafford, according to Sportrac.
