Chelsea to repeat Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund trick with £190m triple transfer merry-go-round

Chelsea know what a triple transfer merry-go-round is all about.

During the 2018 January transfer window, the Blues, along with London rivals Arsenal and Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund, were all working in unison to get three deals over the line.

All of which happened on deadline day as, firstly, the Gunners completed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang which in turn allowed Dortmund to bring in Michy Batshuayi on loan for the remainder of the 2017-18 season.

Needing a replacement for the Belgian, Chelsea swooped for Olivier Giroud who slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium following the arrival of Aubameyang.

Fast forward four-and-a-half years and the Blues are reportedly set to find themselves in an identical situation, but this time with three new players and two different clubs.

As widely reported, Chelsea are interested in resigning Romelu Lukaku.

football.london understands that they have already seen three offers for the Inter Milan striker turned down, with the latest one being £85m plus Marcos Alonso in exchange.

Although, it has been claimed that the Blues will return with another bid with the Serie A champions willing to accept an offer in the region of €130million (£110m).

And in a boost for Thomas Tuchel's side, Inter have reportedly decided on Lukaku's replacement.

According to Di Marzio, Atalanta's Duvan Zapata is being targeted by the Nerazzurri.

However, the report states that they will only allow the Colombian to seal a £40m move to the San Siro once they've signed a replacement of their own.

And that so happens to be Blues striker Tammy Abraham, with the Serie A side - who can offer the 23-year-old Champions League football next season - willing to pay £40m for his services.

So it would appear that Chelsea's hopes of signing Lukaku hinge on Inter bringing in Zapata as a replacement which can only happen if Atalanta clinch a deal for Abraham.

This £190m triple transfer merry-go-round is certainly one to keep an eye on.
