Chelsea to make Christian Pulisic transfer decision as surprise deal can secure £233m windfall

Here's all the news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.

Atletico Madrid's struggles

Chelsea are preparing to face Atletico Madrid in their Champions League last-16 second leg on Wednesday night.

The Blues hold a 1-0 lead in the tie thanks to Giroud’s brilliant overhead kick in the first leg and have seen their chances of reaching the quarter-final boosted over the weekend.

Although Atletico Madrid are top of La Liga and won’t be short of confidence going into the midweek match, they did suffer a blow on Saturday.

Atleti drew 0-0 at Getafe, with the home team also playing the last 20 minutes with 10 men following Allan Nyom’s red card.

Thomas Tuchel reacts to 0-0 draw with Leeds

The draw saw Simeone’s side miss the opportunity to open up an eight-point lead at the top of La Liga and means Barcelona could reduce the gap to four points if they beat bottom side Huesca at home on Monday.

Atleti now travel to Stamford Bridge with the difficult task of breaking down Chelsea, who have kept five successive clean sheets and conceded just twice since Tuchel’s arrival in January.

Chelsea can secure £233m transfer windfall with surprise double departure

Last summer, Chelsea spent big-money in the hope of becoming a more fearful unit at the top end of the pitch, splashing out more than a combined total of £150million on Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, and Timo Werner.

In truth, none of those three have delivered the goods as much as everyone expected, struggling to both score goals and create them.

But despite that, Chelsea will take comfort from the fact that the valuations of both Havertz and Werner have increased.

Havertz joined for an initial fee of £72million whilst Werner was snapped up for just under £50million. Remarkably, despite their struggles in their maiden season in England, their valuations, according to data provided by the CIES Football Observatory, have increased.

According to the website's algorithm, Havertz is currently valued at £116.7million and Werner is priced at £115.9million.

If Chelsea were to make a surprise decision to cash in on both this summer they could secure a £233m transfer windfall whilst making a profit of £100m at the same time.

Pulisic decision to be made

Top clubs are interested in signing Christian Pulisic, but no decision will be made before June.

That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano who claims the USA international has been respectful and is still fighting for his future in west London.

Prior to making his first Premier League start under Thomas Tuchel, there was talk of reported interest in Pulisic from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

But German dismissed such reports by insisting Pulisic is part of his plans.

"When you sign and play for Chelsea, it is part of the job description of a player to be impatient and patient at the same time," said Tuchel. "Impatient because all of my players are competitors and want to play every single minute, and this is what they all show every day, the hunger and the desire. This is what Christian shows.

"And at the same time when you are not selected by the coach, you have to also be patient, not lose confidence, keep on going and be ready any time, because it can happen at any time."
