Chelsea to complete Timo Werner transfer amid RB Leipzig's reported Champions League decision

Timo Werner has reportedly been removed from RB Leipzig's Champions League squad.

Chelsea are believed to be moving nearer to signing the German after pushing ahead of Liverpool in the queue to sign one of the most highly-coveted young forwards in world football.

Sources have told football.london that there is now a "high probability" that Frank Lampard’s side will activate the striker's €55million release clause before it expires on June 15.

Chelsea fans shouldn't worry about Timo Werner transfer

While Bild have reported that a deal is done and that Werner will sign a five-year deal worth €10million a year.

While football.london has been told that there have been positive negotiations but outstanding details must still be agreed.

However, it now appears that the biggest hint to date has been dropped confirming that Werner is bound for Stamford Bridge this summer.

German publication Bild is reporting that Werner has been removed from RB's Champions League squad and will take no further part in this year’s competition for his current club.

The report goes on to add that the reason behind the move is because Werner would be a Chelsea player by the time the competition is played in the summer.

Champions League knockout games are set to be played in a 12-day condensed tournament in Lisbon in August.

The Portuguese capital will host the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final between August 12-23.

All ties are expected to be played as single legs across two different stadiums in Lisbon - the Estadio da Luz and the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Leipzig have already booked their place in the quarter-finals after comfortable overcoming Tottenham Hotspur in the last 16.

While Chelsea have it all to do in their last 16 second-leg clash with Bayern Munich, after being beaten 3-0 by German giants at Stamford Bridge.
