Chelsea to complete Edouard Mendy signing 'by tomorrow', says goalkeeper's agent

Chelsea are set to complete the transfer of Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, the player's agent Djily Dieng has confirmed.

Standard Sport understands Chelsea have been in formal talks with the French club after opting against a move for Jan Oblak, with Mendy deemed the more affordable choice.

Dieng has now announced the two clubs have come to an agreement, stating the deal could be completed as soon as Friday.

The 28-year-old - who will become the club's eighth signing of the summer - will now reportedly travel to London to finalise his deal and undergo a medical.

Speaking to Senegal paper Stades, Dieng said: "The two parties have come to an agreement. All that’s left is the formalisation.

"It could even be done tomorrow, if all goes well. Afterwards, the player will come to finalise everything, including having his medical examination.

Mendy, who plays internationally with Senegal, proved an instrumental figure as Rennes qualified for the Champions League last season with a third-place Ligue 1 finish.

Rennes conceded just 24 goals in 28 games in a curtailed season, level with champions Paris-Saint Germain and below any other team in the league.
