Chelsea: Thiago Silva clarifies common misconception in response to fan calls to be dropped

Thiago Silva has clarified a common misconception about Mauricio Pochettino’s tactics in a response to a Chelsea fan’s calls for him to be dropped.

The Blues were beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest on Saturday in the new manager’s first home defeat at the club.

Serious questions were asked of the west Londoners following the result, which leaves them with just a single Premier League win going into the first international break.

Brazilian defender Silva was among those coming in for criticism with the 38-year-old playing centrally in Pochettino’s four-man defence, which many have interpreted as instead being a 3-5-2 formation.

Pochettino has set Chelsea up with Levi Colwill playing as a defensive-minded left-back behind left-winger Ben Chilwell, while giving Malo Gusto freedom to attack from the right flank in a 4-2-3-1.

Popular social media fan account talkcfc_ posted that Silva was not right for a five-man defence.

While the player posted in the replies that he doesn’t mind calls to be dropped, he clarified: “If you look closely at the game, we are playing with a line of four my friend!

“But there's no problem in assuming that I'm also responsible for the defeat, put the pressure on me, no problem yesterday!”
