Chelsea team news: Thomas Tuchel says changes ‘very likely’ against Southampton

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted he will make changes for Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup meeting with Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

With his side looking to challenge in both the Premier League and the Champions League this season, Tuchel could look to use his squad, particularly after losing both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner to injury during the recent win away at Malmo.

During last month’s penalty shoot-out win over Aston Villa, the German turned to the likes of Malang Sarr, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Saul Niguez and does have plenty of further options available.

“We have an excellent department at Cobham who help us making these decisions [on team selection], like the guys analysing, monitoring, treating the players,” he said.

“Everybody can put their heads together and make decisions because we have to admit we have the late game on Wednesday and the early game on Saturday and now another one on Tuesday.

“So it is very likely we have some changes. At the moment I am happy that everyone who plays, plays with the same style and intensity.

“How many changes I do not know.”
