Chelsea team news: N'Golo Kante could miss visit to Norwich with ankle sprain

N’Golo Kante is a doubt for Chelsea’s game at Norwich with an ankle sprain.

Kante was not ready to start against Manchester United in Chelsea’s first game of the season, but returned to stabilise the midfield against Leicester last weekend.

The Frenchman has been hobbled with an issue in training this week, however, and manager Frank Lampard confirmed he may not figure at Carrow Road.

“Kante has got an injury he has carried all week, so we’ll assess that over the next 24 hours,” Lampard said ahead of the fixture, while confirming another key player, centre-back Antonio Rudiger, remains out.

“Rudiger’s not fit yet, hopefully for next week. That’s the only changes from where we were last week.”

Pedro missed Chelsea training earlier in the week, but Lampard confirmed the Spaniard’s non-participation was a matter of rest rather than fitness.

“That was because we had a busy week and Pedro contributed a lot physically, he had a couple of small aches.

“He’s trained the last two days.”

Lampard suggested that he is happy with his squad as is, and is not anticipating any further departures from his playing group before the European transfer window closes.

Callum Hudson-Odoi should be back after the international break, while Reece James could also return to action similarly soon.
