Chelsea target Jadon Sancho's Manchester United demand as Premier League plans now clear

Chelsea target Sancho issues United demand

Jadon Sancho’s mooted move to Manchester United is dependent on the Premier League club’s ability to guarantee Champions League football.

Chelsea target Sancho has been heavily linked with a move to United, but The Athletic claim the 20-year-old winger is ready to snub an Old Trafford switch if they fail to qualify for Europe’s leading club competition.

United are currently three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualification.

Liverpool, Manchester City (who Sancho left for Dortmund), Real Madrid and Barcelona are also credited with an interest in the England international, who would reportedly cost at least £100m.

Sancho has been a hit for Dortmund since joining from City in 2017, with 17 goals and 19 assists this season.

Blues could be affected by Spanish TV deals

Chelsea are set to be impacted by the collapsed television deals in Spain with broadcasters struggling to pay clubs due to the economic downturn as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

As per the Daily Mail, this development could adversely affect Chelsea, who are expecting transfer instalments from Real Madrid following Eden Hazard’s £90m move to the Spanish capital in 2019.

This could, in turn, impact the Blues’ recruitment plans for the upcoming summer transfer window.

Chelsea are also waiting on instalments from Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Lyon for the transfers of Diego Costa, Juan Cuadrado and Bertrand Traore respectively.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham unite

London clubs Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are among the teams believed to be behind a proposal to finish the Premier League season by June 30.

The Premier League and its clubs remain committed to completing the 2019/20 campaign, which has been suspended since March 13 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And while the possibility of playing games as late as August has been discussed, it’s believed a group of clubs are determined to set a June 30 deadline.

That date poses possible challenges for clubs such as Liverpool, however, who are due to change shirt manufacturers.

If the season is extended beyond June 30, there is a possibility that Chelsea will lose Willian, whose contract expires on that date.

However, the scheme to finish by the end of June was not at Friday’s Premier League shareholders meeting, which discussed 'possible scheduling models'.

ITV Sport have reported that the earliest resumption date is sometime in May, but all plans will be guided by the government which on Thursday announced a three-week extension to the coronavirus lockdown.
