Chelsea suffer yet another injury blow as Kai Havertz forced off against West Ham

Chelsea forward Kai Havertz was substituted at half-time in their Premier League clash with West Ham United.

The Blues took the lead in the first half with Thiago Silva heading home from a corner, with his effort into the ground looping over goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Thomas Tuchel’s men were then the creators of their own downfall, as Jorginho played a blind pass to Edouard Mendy in goal. The goalkeeper lost the ball to Jarrod Bowen under immense pressure, before sliding in and giving away a penalty.

Hammers playmaker Manuel Lanzini then stepped up to slam home the penalty to draw the sides level.

Parity didn’t last long for the home side, though, as a moment of magic from Mason Mount put the Blues ahead again. The midfielder’s first-time side-foot volley was enough to beat the goalkeeper and fire Chelsea back into the lead.

Then, shortly after the goal and just before half-time, Havertz broke through on the right-hand side. He lost control of the ball slightly as he went through, with it falling comfortably for Fabianski.

However, in his desire to poke home the ball, the German international stretched and appeared to injure himself.

The medical staff were on quickly to make sure he was fine, with the forward pulling a slight grimace as he tried to walk, being helped off the pitch by Chelsea staff as the half-time whistle blew.

And that was where Havertz's afternoon ended. He didn't reappear for the second half and was substituted off for Romelu Lukaku, which could add another injury concern to the growing list that Tuchel has, which includes Ben Chilwell, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Trevoh Chalobah.

Tuchel will likely address the issue post-match.
